Adding SageTV to my HTPC - any advice?

I've been using a HTPC to watch DVD's in 1800x960i on my 55" HDTV using the VGA connection for the last 3 years. I've finally decided to take the plunge and turn it into a PVR with SageTV.

I've been using Zoom player for the DVD playback, and am very happy with the quality. As I've perused the forums here, I'm a little overwhelmed by the option available in setting up SageTV (plugins etc.)

So, as a Newbie, where should I start in making my SageTV system "optimal" (i.e. easy to use with awesome picture quality)? Where should I spend my time tweaking and optimizing?

And are there any ways to avoid burn-in, since I won't be able to use my TV's stretch modes?
