v3.0.7 Beta network drive problem
I've not been able to get SageTV to use a network share. HEre's what I know and what I've tried:
1) Network mapped drives don't show up in the list (as they shouldn't) 2) The server I'm trying to connect to doesn't show up under "network" 3) I can manually browse under Windows' network and connect to my target server with no issues 4) All other programs I have can access it 5) All 7 of my other machines (including a Macintosh) can connect to the target server 6) The username/password of the logged in user on my client machine is the same as the username/password of the server I'm connecting to 7) I can't seem to get the name right via the SMB share. It keeps on saying "Creating directory x failed". Here's what I've tried: \\archive\SageDrive smb:\\archive\SageDrive \\archive.synthcom.com\SageDrive smb:\\archive.synthcom.com\SageDrive \\207.202.141.85\SageDrive (its IP) Z:\ (yeah, I know it won't do mapped drives, but I had to try!) Every time it tells me it failed to create the directory. Is there any way to get this to work? Why can't it just use mapped drives? -->Neil |

Okay - fixed the problem. Don't know if this is the right fix, but it did fix the issue.
Go to "My computer", select "Tools", then "Folder options", and select "Use simple file sharing (recommended)". That made everything appear with no problem under SageTV and I'm happily spooling over the network now. ;-) -->Neil |

I had sharing turned on, but this was a system that was migrated from Windows 2000, so by default when you migrate, it turns on "complex file sharing". That is, I can set multiple shares, individually grant permissions to users or groups of users, etc... but even though I had the "Everyone" group set to "full access", Sage still wouldn't see it.
And oddly enough, after I reinstalled Sage with the 3.0.11, the network mounted S drive and the share both worked. ;-( -->Neil |

My system is running with "complex file sharing" and everything works fine. It can be a pain to get everything dialed in, but once I set it up, I feel that it is better that using mapped drives.
With Mapped drives, if one of the computers restarted, the drive would be "offline" until I browsed it in windows explorer. Then the drive would be available and Sage could access the files. Sage on its own would not "browse" the drive and bring it online. |
