Monitor power down on sleep?

When I press the power button on my remote, I have it configured to put SageTV to sleep and display the screensaver. After a while, Windows power management kicks in and powers down the monitor. This kind of works, although the screen saver kicks back in every once in a while. What I would like to do is go directly to monitor power down when I put SageTV to sleep. I want the power button on my remote to "turn off" the monitor (without having to purchase something like Girder and an IR blaster). Can this be done? It would make things much easier for my family to use as the kids aren't allowed to touch the TV and my wife doesn't like to leave it on all the time.

The only way that I know would be to set the monitor power off time in Windows to 1 min then you wil only see one min of the sage screen saver before the monitor goes to sleep mode.
