Cannot run, install or uninstall
Trying to fix the video issues, I now have SageTV beta to a point where it will not run, uninstall or install.
I've tried shutting off SageTV from the processes page, tried using MS Config so that it doesn't start up, tried safe mode. It seems as if something is running that is keeping it from uninstalling. Ideas? BTW, I did uninstall something else, so I know the uninstall Windows services are functioning. I'd rather not do a system restore, if possible. |

Do you have it running in service mode? If so, you'll have to stop the service first. (Though I wouldn't think it would still be running in safe mode!) If nothing at all, not even the service, is running, then you might want to send a question to tech support.

If you're talking about that Java-type thing that you can pop up, when I ran it the display did show it was enabled or running or whatever, but I couldn't change it from there.
BTW, I also couldn't do a restore. What was happening was a SageTV service was trying to start and stopped just about everything else from working. Eventually it gave up and showed as stopped, at which time I could use MSConfig to get it to not start at all, then I rebooted and deleted the program. |

Well, I've uninstalled and reinstalled and am having the same issues again. In the service control panel it shows the service as "starting" but it never starts.
I think one of the settings I did it didn't like, and somehow it's remembering them through an uninstall and install? Does that sound possible? I have having an issue with video which caused me to make a lot of changes in the video settings, and apparently one I made it didn't like. |

If you are uninstalling & reinstalling in the same directory, then you are going to want to delete all the properties files & their autobackups in order to do a complete reconfiguration.

Okay, a quick way to not wait for the service to repeatedly try to load is to simply rename sagetvservices.exe sagetvservices.old.
Anyway, after doing that, uninstalling, deleting the entire sageTV directory, and then reinstalling, I still get the same issue. The difference is that on first install, when I bring up the Sage control panel and hit enable, that works, but when I hit start services, after about 2 seconds it goes back to stopped. So for some reason it no longer wants to run. I think at this point I will try a system restore unless you have any other advice as to what might be causing this. BTW, I downloaded the non-beta 2.2 version, and it worked, but had the same issue with the blank video screen. So once I get past this I'm going to have to figure out why the overlay is not working. It's working on two other programs I use. |

What happens when you run it w/o trying to use service mode? There may be something toward the end of the sagetv_0.txt log file showing a failure. Check out the solution in this post if it is choking on some not yet fully supported capture card. If non-service mode runs, then there is some service-related issue, obviously.
For the black screen, try setting the ui/accelerated_rendering=false property to disable 3D Acceleration. (That is in sage.properties unless you are running in service mode, in which case edit sageclient.properties.) - Andy

I'll look into that tonight. I don't think it's an unsupported card issue because it worked on a prior machine and has recorded at least one program on this machine (although I was never able to watch it due to the video issue, but the file size looked right). I'm using a Fusion 3 Gold.

Okay, without the SageTV service started, the program would start to load and then terminate at the initilization phase. The error indicated it happened when trying to load the Fusion WDM device, but disabling that device didn't change the result.
There was another file indicating a java error. After uninstalling and reinstalling java, I got the same results, so I did a system restore. On reinstalling Fusion and then Sage, the Sage install apparently started a Java install (I'd always installed prior to Sage before). It was an older version--the website version is now 1.5 something. Is 1.5 perhaps incompatible with Sage? Because it now works. On the video issue, deselecting hardware accelleration fixed the issue, but the video is very choppy. What's the next step to fix that? BTW, I appreciate your help! |

Your best bet is probably to submit a bug about what you ran into (if it is a HD card listed as supported in the beta already) -- and keep the logs from those times if you still have them.
If you are now using overlay, I'm not sure why the video is choppy. Maybe someone who knows more about video playback will come along... - Andy

I'll check, but I don't think I have any logs. (Edit: I do--apparently setup preserves old directories).
System restore even deleted C:\sage which was the directory I'd set up for recordings. I never knew it would delete directories. But it didn't delete a scheduled task I had set up. Very odd. Also, it changed the logon in Bluetooth services to something that wouldn't allow my keyboard and mouse to be installed. I'd had that problem on the old computer and knew the solution, but this computer was fine until the system restore. Things like this are why I just don't trust system restore.
