Suspected HW problem PVR-250

Since yesterday afternoon, I have had a problem.

I am getting severe clipping in my recordings on every channel and every source. It started yesterday during the daytime. The sound makes a horrible high-pitched blip noise and the picture pixellates every couple of seconds.

I thought it may be isolated to just one channel, but that is not the case.

If I close Sage and open WinTV2000, I notice that the picture stutters (freezes) every few seconds. Is there something I can do about this?? Have you ever seen this, what do you recommend?

I also experienced this after a few straight days of running the Hauppauge card. I was then able to fix it with a system reboot. The new drivers for the PVR-250 seemed to fix this problem and I haven't seen it after using them for the last week. You can access them at http://www.shspvr.com in his news section.

I was seeing this also, and there is a lot of discussion at SHSPVR forum about others seeing this. This appears to be a problem with the WINTV PVR 250 drivers and not related to Sage in any way.

I downloaded the latest Beta drivers from Hauppage and so far (knock on wood) the problems seem to be fixed. I haven't done a lot of testing yet but so far so good.

Reinstallation of Drivers

What is the best process to follow to reinstall the Hauppauge drivers? It seems like when I run the hcwclear.exe, it never seems to work right...

Try copying it to your C:\ and run it from there.

I reinstalled the beta drivers, and it seems to be doing exactly the same thing...

not sure what to try next. I defragged numerous times (drive is about 50% of capacity). Any other suggestions?

I would try searching on SHS's forum for similar topics or contacting Hauppauge technical support.

I did some searching and found this:

PVR 250 problems

The only thing that seemed to fix it was shutting down the PC for a while and firing back up. As said in that forum, I think it's driver related and not likely an overheating issue...

Update to the latest BIOS if you haven't, that sometimes solves the problem.

I nearly pulled my hair out over this same problem, chirping audio and skipping video, and for me the problem was my 3COM NIC. Once I replaced that everything worked well. I'm working on a 2nd PC now, and I had a repeat of the problem. Then I remembered I was using that same NIC. I updated the 3com drivers and it's working.

Basically, the problem can be based on other components as well, keep an eye out.

My VIA chipset has been giving me similar problems, especially with the sound card. This message was forwarded from another forum here:

I just found this link ( http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/ ) and wanted to let you all know about it if you don't already.

This was true for me with my Radeon board (which it mentions in the README file is true) and my SB Live 5.1 card.

All was fixed except for a DSDRVNT crash which I found was related to the beta version of DScaler 4.1.6

Here's the quoted text:
------------------------------

"PCI Latency" patch for VIA chipsets

This is a Windows driver that will patch motherboards that have VIA chipsets. It is intended to solve many problems, including these:

* Files copied from one IDE hard disk drive to another are corrupted .
* The computer stops ("freezes", "hangs", "locks up") when playing sounds, especially to a Creative SoundBlaster LIVE! card
* The computer stops when copying to or from an IDE DVD, CDROM, or CDRW drive
* Sounds played by a Creative Labs sound card are distorted

NOTE: It does not apply any fixes to AMD chipsets, such as the 750 or 761.

Current Version 0.19 12/12/01

This is the current stable version. It does not support the KT400 or P4X400 chipsets.

If you do not know whether your computer has a qualifying VIA chipset, please try the free CPU-Z utility from cpuid.com. The name of the chipset is displayed in CPU-Z's "Mainboard" tab.
