Easy Question - Dual Tuner or USB-UIRT to solve problem

I currently have a PVR350.

However, I have a problem where I am unable to view channels greater than 99 without using the SVideo out on my cable box. SpeedTV (Formula 1 races) are on 135, so I have to set my cable box to that channel before I record.

Is it possible to use my PVR350's coax in to control channels 1-99 and change it automatically to record and a 2nd tuner just for svideo (solely for my f1 races) - can I specifically pick which tuner records what shows?

I've gone through the USB-UIRT threads and they seem to have a lot of problems, but maybe that solution would suit my needs better. :dunno:

Advise me oh wise ones.

To use 2 different tuners/inputs, you will want to make sure you have 2 different channel lineups that you can choose, so that you can specify which tuner/input can use specific channels. I see at least 3 configuration options:
  1. Use a single tuner + USB-UIRT: hook up the STB to your tuner & use the USB-UIRT to change the channels on the STB. Only 1 channel lineup is used, since all channels are coming through a single source.

  2. Use just the 350, but set it up as 2 sources: The TV tuner will be set to tune all channels 99 or lower; the svideo input will be set to use the STB output. In this case, you will need 2 channel lineups because 2 sources using the same lineup cannot have different sets of channels enabled.

Note that for this option, you could use the svideo input to record just a single channel for the races, as you mentioned, or you could use a USB-UIRT to allow it to record any channels not used by the TV Tuner -- 2 inputs on the same card cannot be set to use the same channels.

  3. Use the 350 + some other tuner. One tuner uses the TV Tuner, the other uses svideo from the STB. This is similar to #2, but you could use the 2nd tuner to record any channel from the STB, not just those that aren't in use by the TV Tuner input. You still need 2 separate channel lineups.

#2 w/o a USB-UIRT + only a single channel going to svideo is the option that costs nothing. Plus, you don't need to worry about missed IR signals when changing channels for 99 or lower.
