High CPU utilization with A180 HD recording

Is anyone else experiencing high CPU utilization when recording HD with the AVerMedia A180 card? I tried it on my test machine (P4 2.66GHz) and it didn't use up more than 10% CPU. When I moved the card to my main Sage server (Athlon XP 3000+), I'm seeing about 60% utilization when the A180 is recording. Checking the task manager shows that this is about 30% SageTV.exe and 30% "System". I've tried both versions of the A180 driver with no difference. I bugged it already, but I'm not sure what to try next.

That seems high if just recording and not viewing; i.e., Sage is in "sleep" state and no decoding occurring.

JBlust,

I just had to reinstall XP SP2 on my machine running an AMD Athlon 2800+ with a Avermedia A180 card. I installed the lastest driver for the A180 from Avermedia's web site and I'm seeing around 40-60 Utilization on my machine just recording as well. No client running at all. I've not been happy with Beta 3.7 as no matter what I've done my recording and playbacks are always stuttering. I've tried different decoders NVIDIA's lastest, Cyberlink's and other's and the same results. NO also to mention that all of my OTA digital stations aren't being picked up by EPG anymore.

Any suggestions from anyone? I'm open

I haven't found a solution yet for my box. I tried reinstalling XP (using MCE 2005 this time) and I still have the high CPU utilization. Maybe it's a problem unique to the A180 w/ Sage on Athlon XP? I've got a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 Rev 2 motherboard. I didn't have this problem when I had the A180 in my P4 2.66 box.

I can tell you that I can play HD with no problem in both the AVerMedia HD app, and in MCE on the same box. It's just a problem using Sage 3.0.7. I bugged it and the Sage folks asked for a log file, but I haven't heard back yet.

2800+ should be enough. My 2400+ does HD ok with CPU usage about 50%. I haven't been able to bring the CPU usage down, although I'm hoping is it possible since my CPU usage when running the Fusion software is much lower. I'm using the Cyberlink 6 decoder and Intervideo decoders for Video and Audio respectively.

iceman, you're using overlay, right?

Flashback... Yes I'm using overlay and not VMR9. I'm also using Cyberlink 6 decoder for video decoding along with audio respectively. I'm not using Intervideo decoder like you are.

Should rendering use overlay if you have an HDTV tuner as opposed to VMR9?

I have a P4 2.8 and a Radeon 9600 with my A180 and XP SP2. I haven't looked at my CPU utilization yet, but I can tell you that I can watch HD with overlay only -- VMR9 gives me stutters.

Too bad because (at least I've convinced myself) VMR9 is better. I was close to buying a new video card last week, but the quality difference isn't worth it.
