Windows XP crashes

From my first experieces, SageTV is a cool piece of s/w. Well done guys.

Of course I do get a crash and I am hoping to help get it fixed.

The Engironment : Compaq PIII 550mhz, 512mb PC133, WinTV PVR-250, ATI Radeon 7000, 60gb of HD space, Windows XP Professional with all the latest patches, SageTV 1.3.8

I have just started playing around with SageTV for the past two days. I leave SageTV in sleep mode overnight to allow it to record some of the marked favourites. Intellegent mode is set.

In the morning when I try to startup SageTV from its icon in the taskbar, the machine crashes (blue screen of death). I have to then hard reboot the machine. After this reboot, the system works ok (but I am not sure for how long).

I have turned off the system crash dump, reboot etc in the advanced properties for WinXP.

Has anyone seen this behaviour?

Hello rhari,

If by a 'blue screen of death' you mean that you are getting the Windows XP Stop Error screen, then it is likely you have a hardware conflict, a bad device driver, a bad stick of RAM, BIOS related problem, or maybe even a heat related problem.

I've had a few Stop Errors on some of my systems and so far I have been able to track them all down and eliminate them. BIOS updates, driver updates, adding case fans for more cooling and replacing bad RAM has solved all the hard system crashes I have experienced in Windows XP on the 4 computers I am running. Next time it happens, copy down and post the error message...Just the Stop Error number and the short description at the top part of the screen not the whole screen dump

Thanks for the clues.
I will try to reproduce it again tonight or soon and post the stop error #.

It's unlikely this is related to sage tv (other than that sage tv uses functionality which is not used otherwise, like overlay etc.)

Online crash analysis

Also make sure you have the latest bios/drivers.
