SageTV not listing Intervideo Decoder?
I've got a PVR-500 that I installed tonight and I was watching a few shows on defaults, but lets be fair, defaults aren't the greatest.
It seems like everyone automatically gets the Intervideo decoder installed with their drivers, but I guess not me. Under "MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter" all I have is MainConcept MPEG Video Decoder and SageTV MPEG Video Decoder. What can I do to get the intervideo decoder? Yes, I have searched and will continue to do so, but it seems like I'm the only idiot ![]() Thanks, -----Nate |

The Nero decoders don't show either if you have them installed.
I'd sure like an answer on these "hidden" decoders. I'd really like to be able to use some other ones... |

The MCE cards do not come with an mpeg decoder. Here's the link:
http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_mce.html You may also be a little confused about what the defaults are in Sage. When you select default in Sage it uses the decoder that is set as the default decoder for Windows. I use the default setting in sage, which in my case is the nvidia decoder. For you it will obviously be something else. Last edited by blade; 08-23-2005 at 09:18 PM. |

Is there any option? People talk about using the Intervideo decoder with the PVR-500 which is MCE flavor only ... are they all using Windows XP-MCE? Whats a Windows XP Pro user to do??

I didn't say you couldn't use the Intervideo decoder with the 500 I said it didn't come with it.
I believe most people think the nvidia decoders are the best. I'd suggest reading up on decoders and see what people have to say before worrying too much about getting the Intervideo ones. |

Are you saying it's "available" ... it's just not something to discuss on this forum?
I appreciate your help and I understand this is the stupid newb questions you hate, but this is my first foray into PCI tuners, so I'm a little behind ![]() From what I read the nVidia ones are trial only and can't be bought yet, but the 4.0s are "coming soon"... is this so? |

That's not what I mean. What I mean is they don't come with the card. Many people on the forums have other capture cards that aren't MCE versions and probably got their decoder that way. Or you could purchase it I guess.
Decoders deal with the playback side of things, which has nothing to do with your PCI capture card. The nvidia decoder trial can be downloaded from nvidia's site. http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_dec...150-trial.html They can also be purchased there. |

Yes I just downloaded it and processor usage just went down considerably and video quality went up. Now I can't watch TV without SageTV recording what I'm watching automatically, but I know thats my fault and I'll figure it out soon.
Thanks for your help. |

No problem.
BTW it's normal for Sage to record whatever you're watching, that's how you're able to pause and rewind liveTV. The files generated from watching liveTV will be automatically deleted so there's no need to worry about them. |
