DVI to COMPONENT VIDEO

I bought a GIGABYTE 9600XT
My new video card has a DVI out as well as VGA and TV (S-video). It came with a dongle to convert DVI to VGA for use, but was wondering (and didn't want all the extra weight of using a dongle) if the signals coming out of the DVI is the same as being fed into a VGA or even better a Component Connector. Also, can I use the VGA signal to feed a Compnent cable?


I currently use a transcoder from my ATI 9600XT AIW cards VGA out to the transcoder (internal) from there to my switcher. It would be nice to eliminate the transcoder and go straight to the switcher, and using power strip or the new ATI Catylyst software have it recognize the Component conection and set the display appropriratly.

DVI is a digital signal.

That being said, there are numerous configs for DVI which allow for analog output to be integrated in the connector, due to unused pins. I believe DVI-I is the standard which even allows sound through the connector.
Some manufacturers like ATI take advantage of this and use those extra pins to do things like Component out.

What is your card? Nvidia 6600?
Edit: OOPS, I guess it's the ATI AIW 9600. Yes they make a adapter which goes straight Component. Look it up on their website. I have it and it works great on my Plain 9800 pro.
