I was interested in it primarily as it tells me about the drivers you may be using .

I think the card you state is based on NVIDIA's GeForce 256 chipset (Im not an expert on this, as the card is before my time).

Given that you are running an Nvidia based card, do you know which version of the drivers you are using?
You can get the latest version at http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.77.html

Also, I think this card is dual head, are you running the projector only, or do you have a monitor or TV hooked up as well ?

Cheers

As a follow up, download graphedit, and see if you can get a copy of the graph that windvd is using when it is playing the DVD's that don't work in Sage.

If you can post that, it may help with analysis as well.

Cheers

WinDVD doesn't use directshow to play when you use the WinDVD app.

PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!!

i tried to play it in media player, it wouldn't play because it said that my dvd region is set to region 1.

it was set to region 2 only in windvd, not in windows. so i changed it!

everything works now. i prefer the intervideo codecs over the nvidia ones though.

thanks for your help!!!

simon

Excellent, glad it all worked in the end.

I use DVDregionfree so that I don't have to switch DVD regions (I have a mix of region 1 and 2 discs) .

Cheers

will check that dvdregionfree thing, thanx.

hey the intervideo codec looks so much better than the nvidia, i think it's due to the TrimensionDNM!

Trimension doesn't work in other apps outside of the WinDVD application.

And it totally destroys some movies, like Saving Private Ryan.

No, it used to work, the first version of WinDVD 6, but then they "fixed" it.

AFIAK, the currently available version of 6 is "fixed" also. It was only the very first build of 6 that worked.

coincidentially, i saw you discussing in a different htpc board about that stuff. you really seem to have a lot of knowledge about this. do you know how to "fix this back"? would be cool.
edit: i once read trimension doesn't do anything for PAL dvds, just for NTSC. is that true?
in any case, i wanna try it in sage, cause my projector says it gets a 60hz signal, and that 60hz stuff gets "fixed" by trimension (at least that's what they say)
maybe you know a hack how to achieve this?

simon

The only way I know of would be to find the old build from before they disabled DNM in the directshow filter.

hey stanger89, i got that version (6.0.6.42). do i need anything else now? or can i just uninstall version 7, install the 6 one and do these registry tweaks:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\InterVideo\Common\VideoDec\ProgDVB]
"HWCOLOR"=dword:00000000
"DXVA"=dword:00000000
"UseDNM"=dword:00000001
"DXVAPAL"=dword:00000001
"NOVIDEODROP"=dword:00000001
"YV12FIRST"=dword:00000001

(i got these from here )

thanks,

simon

Unistall 7, reinstall 6.

You'll need to change those DWORDs in a new key called SageTV (vs ProgDVB). It will not work for 30fps content (ie Sage recordings).

You can try creating a new recording profile with IVTC enabled, and it may work with Sage recordings.
