best video settings for pvr-150

could anyone please tell me the "best practice" to get the most out of my pvr-150?

because: compared to wintv, the quality in sagetv is very bad.

i already did the registry hack - no improvement.

what should i chose for video renderer? currently i have default.
or what decoder filter, what video settings in general should i chose?
there are so many settings and wintv gets so much better quality.
i have directx version 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904).

please tell me what to do! there are so many possiblilities...maybe someone knows?

i use a projector with vga cable, if that helps.

also, i tried to watch a dvd. when i press play dvd, nothing happens, just a blank screen. do i need extra stuff? i have most settings on default...

but the live tv quality problem is more important. the picture has so many artifacts, even though in both wintv and sagetv the quality is set to mpeg2 max quality...

thanx,

simon

Hi,

What you seem to be asking for is not settings for your PVR-150, but actually for your video output.

I output to a SDTV, so my settings may not help, but I use Overlay, Intervideo Non CSS decoders, DXVA Mode A and Bob Deinterlace. My video card is a Nvidia 6600GT.

The PQ is superb.

With Regards your DVD, you need to post what settings you have in there.

It sounds like the settings are incorrect.

Cheers

Mark

now i disabled "Overlay Color Keying" and enabled overlay in the video settings.

much better, but not perfect. picture still kinda jerky.

sage should release some best practices for individual tuner cards. i spent so much time in the forum looking for solutions...

i still would be glad to hear some tweaks other pvr150 users used to improve picture quality.

also, do i need interlacing? i'm using a projector, so do i need it? can it improve my picture?

simon

As has already been said, it sounds like your problem is with your output settings not your capture card. If your looking for ways to improve picture quality by searching for pvr-150 related items you're looking for the wrong thing.

Default just uses the decoder set as the default for windows. This tells us nothing about what decoder you're actually using.

A little more information would be helpful. What type of video card are you using? What type of decoders do you have installed on your system? What resolution are you running your projector at?

i just did a clean install and got windows xp professional sp2.

so the only codecs i have came with xp or hauppauge pvr 150.

i just don't know anything about the video settings. what is weave? what is bob? what should i use as renderer? and so on...i had to spend a lot of time until i figured to turn of Overlay Color Keying. before that, i didn't even get a picture...vmr9 for example gives me a very jerky picture...there are like 3245 possibilities.

i just don't wanna spend a year trying all kinda different settings, searching around in forums and websites and so on.

I don't believe you will be able to play DVD's if you only have the Hauppauge PVR-150 software installed.

You need a video codec - try installing PowerDVD, or buying the Nvidia Codec (There are lots out there).

You still seem to be missing the point regarding the difference between settings for a capture card, and the output settings for a video card.

If you list the hardware that you use, you may get more help.

Cheers

You still didn't give any details on the hardware you're using or the resolution of your projector. It's going to be impossible for people to provide solutions until they know what your setup is. If you're unwilling to give specific details about your system then odds are you won't get much help.

hey guys, i achieved a pretty nice quality by trying many things.

right now, i use the intervideo codec (i installed windvd) and overlay. colors are very nice, image is fluent and not jerky. all other settings are on default.

vmr9 made the picture real jerky.

i'm using a svga projector which is connected via vga port to a guillemot 3d prophet card.

would some interlacing make sense?

Are you having any issues with the image ? - I would only get involved with deinterlacing, etc if you are have some aspect of the image that you don't like.

I output to a standard TV, so for live TV, I use BOB deinterlacing on the intervideo windvd decoder, however for DVD's I havn't played with the interlacing settings (They are at whatever the default is).

I must admit, I sometimes struggle to follow all the discussions regarding deinterlacing, interlacing , etc, so it maybe that other people have suggestions.

One thing I have found useful for giving me smoother playback is Reclock, which is a great little app.

Cheers
