Problems inputing data into SageTV from xmltv plugin

I have followed all of the directions so far as to get the data from the xmltv program, and to export it to the epgdata.xml file in the SageTV root dir, but when I use the setup wizard, it does not give me anything from the xmltv data....just directv, dish, and local channels options as if it is not using the plugin. I modded the Sage.Properties file to load the plugin...but it is not going. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Hi Gibby,

I too struggled with getting the XMLTV plugin to work, but now seem to have found a combination of the various parts that works. Try:

- Java 1_4_2 JRE from here
- SageTV current release - 1.3.8
- v05.14 of the XMLTV plugin for sage, and the same version grabber.

I installed the above Java version and rebooted. I then installed SageTV and ran it once, selecting my PVR250 card during setup and "I don't have an access code". I closed SageTV and did all the steps in the XMLTV instructions using the version listed above (epgdata.xml, xerces.jar in SageTV and Java, xmltv folder, properties file mod, etc). Rebooted PC.

Started SageTV again, ran the Setup Wizard again using TRIAL and 00000 as the area code, selected the Dish Network and presto - XMLTV as an option!

I've been able to repeat this as I've installed it twice now just to make sure this process works. I also tried different versions of the Java, the XMLTV 05.15 plugin and the latest Beta of SageTV and could *not* get the listings to work.

Did you check this tread:

Scroll down and download the plugin tester. See if that gives you some clues.

well this is just great....I just got the plugin tester and ran it and it said:
Quote:
Test complete, result was 'true'.
So I have the plugin set up correctly...I have the epgdata updated for my area and the epgdata.xml file in the SageTV root folder, I have the xerces.jar in the java folder and extracted to my SageTV directory, the sage properties file modded.....but SageTV still does not give me xmltv as an option!!!!

What else can I do???? If anyone could please help me...it would be greatly appreciated!

That's odd. Double-check that you have successfully edited the Sage.Properties file and that there are no spelling errors. For me, SageTV doesn't give me an actual XMLTV option when I need to select TV service, I just chose Dish Network. This should give you a list of the correct channels.

Another thing you might want to try is to copy the xerces.jar to your SageTV root directory as well.

Gibby, did the plugin tester output a ton of text before saying, "test complete"? If not, then the plug-in is able to read the XML file without failure, but is not detecting any channels or shows. If necessary, I can add a little bit of code that tells you more about what the plugin is doing.

*UPDATE*

Randomly...I got an option for xmltv in SageTV...all of my channels are there! but...they are all out of order...channel 2 is really channel 53 and so forth...how do i get them to work? i used the tv_sort command...

The even bigger problem is this though....SageTV records what I watch just fine...but in the window....it displays a frozen picture, it does not show live TV. How do I fix this problem?

Thanks for all of the help!

Just a quick note- if you have a space at the end of the plugin line in the properties file then you may well have problems. The great thing - if you double click a word to copy and paste it puts a blank at the end...just a warning cos it caught me out

I just needed the updated version of the modded EPG plugin. This is because I'm using xmltv 0.5.15. Yes. Woo!

Oh you're not kidding! The W.A.F. (wife acceptance factor) has increased ten-fold in the last 12 hours.
