Hauppauge IR remote

I've been searching through the forums and manual and have found a lot of references but no clear answers on how to get the Hauppauge PVR-250/350 remote control to work with SageTV.

Specifically:

1. Can the remote and IR receiver that come with the Hauppauge cards control SageTV?

2. If so, how do I get the remote control and SageTV to communicate with each other? When I go into setup, the only options I have for IR involve IRman and com ports.

I have the silver remote and a PVR-350. I am using SageTV 1.3.8. I am aware of the pages showing the mapping between the remote control and SageTV (http://www.freytechnologies.com/HaupIRRemoteMaps1.txt ); however, I am unable to get far enough for those to be useful.
