I am getting ready to jump into an HDTV card as well, but are the tuners being sold already broadcast flag ready? The original date was 7/1/05 so I imagine that the hardware makers have switched already and when/if the broadcast flag goes into effect I will be stuck with DRM'ed videos...

I don't know of any cards on the market that would obey the broadcast flag if it is implemented in the future.

Most of the HDTV tuner manufacturers are based in asia and don't care much about the broadcast flag anyway.

I wrote a wrapup a while ago. The data is still valid even though it's missing recent review. Have a look:

Get the Avermedia A180. It's cheap an reliable. I have two of them. I also have the ATI HTDV Wonder, and it works great too. Don't believe the Blunder hype about hte ATI.

I was reading the product info on the A180 and it states that you need an analog tuner pre-installed to work with the A180? Does that mean that one of my existing tuners would be unavailable during HD capture? Also, what exactly do I need to capture an HDTV stream? Would I have to mount an antenna or can I get HDTV cable box and control it like I do with normal analog capture?

They are describing some sort of bug or feature of MCE, not their own product.

I've heard that also. In Windows Media Center Edition I believe you must have at least one analog tuner installed before MCE will see your HDTV tuner.

MCE? I mean, come on, limited to 2 analog and one HD tuner. I hear there are hacks to get it to work with more, but Sage works with LOTS of tuners right out of the box.
