Nvidia detonator driver question about Directx Anti-aliasing

I noticed that when you select anti-aliasing=application controlled, there seems to be a nice antialiasing effect in SageTV low res video like the svideo input of my Hauppauge PVR USB2. If I specifically state anti-aliasing=OFF, I see a very harsh aliasing effect on the video. So... what AA setting is being used by SageTV by default?

BTW: Is there a reason why AA has an adverse effect on 1080i video? It makes the video relatively soft for some reason; which is why I had AA turned off.
