Girder issue

Hi folks,

I'm trying to get my Firefly to work via Girder, rather than the Beyond TV Basic software that comes bundled with the remote. So far, I have the basic Firefly drivers loaded, as well as the trial version of Girder. I also found a Girder gml file on these forums for Sage Client 2.0.19, and loaded it.

Here's my status: When I click a button on the Firefly, the Girder tray icon flashes and it's clear that the command is received. When Girder is active, I can see the different commands registering. So that much, it seems, is working. But when I make Sage active, it seems that the Girder commands aren't received by Sage.

What am I missing?

Hi Grasshopper,

I've had some fun getting Girder to work too. Did you teach Girder your remote control buttons for each of the items in the GML file? To do this, highlight an item in the list, press the 'Learn Event' button in the upper right corner of the Girder window, and then press the remote control button that you want to use. You should then see an event listed under that item with a long hex code. You didn't mention doing this in your post, so I figure it's best to ask.

Good Luck,
Mike

No. I got the Firefly plugin for girder and installed it. When girder is in the foreground, I can hit buttons on the Firefly and I can see that girder is recognizing the different buttons. So that part seems to work.

I also got a Sage Client gml for girder from searching these forums (and another one from searching the forums at Proximis). Loading these should mean that I don't have to teach girder all the commands, yes?

Grasshopper,

You do still have to program Girder to recognize your remote button presses. Right now it sees them but doesn't know what to do with them. The GML file just tells Girder what command to send to SageTV when an an item is activated by an associated event. According to your description, Girder is recognizing that an event is being generated when you press the remote control button. The only thing now missing is to link the event to the command so Girder knows what to do when it receives the event. This is done by the 'Learn Event' procedure I described in my last post.

Ah. That clears things up a whole lot.

How do I add commands to the list? The Sage gml for girder I downloaded had commands ready for nearly every Sage function except "Stop Playback" (curiously). I can certainly add commands in Girder, but how do I configure the command to tell Sage what to do?

Select the command, hit learn, then press the button on the remote.

Right.

What if the command isn't listed?

Grasshopper,

The 'Stop Playback' command is actually listed as 'Close File' (or something like that) in the GML file. IIRC it is the last item in the list.

Not in the file I'm using (which I think is Stanger's), Client for 2.0.19. The last command is "Sage Recordings". If you have a more recent file, can you send it to me?

Grasshopper,

I just checked out Stanger's GML file and there are 3 entries after 'SageTV Recordings'. They are:

Picture Library
Video Library
Close File

They might just be off screen. Try scrolling down. If they are missing, try downloading a new copy. I'm at work right now so I don't have access to my GML file, but I do have a copy of Stanger's file here if you need it. Send me an e-mail if you want me to send it to you.

I figured out the problem. Those last three commands exist in the Sage gml, but are missing in the Sage Client gml. I added them manually and all is well.
