Dumb Question

No doubt this will seem like a dumb question to those who are experienced SageTV Users, but here we go anyway...

Can I hook up a receiver (via a tuner card, of course) to a client PC and have that source recognized and accessible from the server and other clients? I have 2 Directv boxes hooked up to my server, but I wanted to add a 3rd - and having run out of com ports (and card slots) on the server - hooked up the 3rd reciever to one of my client's. However, when I go to add it as a source only the two existing receivers are showing on the list.

Thanks for the help on this!

No, the client cannot control a capture device directly; only SageTV or SageTVRecorder can directly control the tuners.

The tuner on the client machine could be controlled by SageTVRecorder, if it is one that Recorder supports, and then you would configure it as a network encoder. Alternately, you could look into using another licensed copy of SageTV as a client + network encoder on the client PC -- see this post for some info on that.

Ok, I think I understand what is involved. I wish this was more simple (and cheaper!) but it is what it is.

Since I already plunked down $30 for the client license on the PC that needs the Server license (I have several other client PCs), do you think I can get a credit towards the Server license? That would ease the monetary pain of this set-up... I guess I woud need to e-mail sage with this question.
