What is causing stuttering on just one OTA ATSC channel? Fast PC/Great signal strgth
I've seen other people mention this type of problem before, but this ONLY happens on one channel which has has good signal strength.
I'm trying to find out what causes micro-stuttering on just one ATSC channel. The problem doesn't appear to be lack of performance on my PC nor lack of signal strength. The only thing I can think of is one of the direct show components is causing a problem wtih plackback. Or, possibly something to do with the Fusion 5 Lite driver not handling a local FOX 720p station correctly. Any ideas? PS: FYI, All my ATSC stations display smooth as silk except for that station. |

Okay, I found out an important clue. I sure hope somebody from Sage might know what this is:
I switched my default recordings directory to a different hard drive with slightly less performance. The lesser performance hard drive easily keeps up with all the other ATSC channels, however, this channel causes extreme hard drive activity for just this channel. I wouldn't even know where to beging trouble shooting this. It's obvious its recordings data that it's not supposed to. |

Have you tried changing NumBuffers to 64 (0x40) in Common/DSFilters/MpegDeMux in the registry?

Wohoo!! That fixed it for me too!
Should I still leave BoostThreadPriorities=0? Do you know what kind of effect BoostThreadPriorities=0 does? If these settings are so good, why aren't they set to that by default? |

Don't know about boost thread priorities. As for the other, I think it shouldn't be necessary for SD, but it was recommended by Jeff for HD playback. My guess is they either haven't gotten that far yet, and/or are still working out the optimal setting.

My guess is, it doesn't hurt SD from what I've seen, so maybe they should make the buffers 64 by default now. Either this, or change the setting, when a user sets up an HD tuner.

The BoostThreadPriorities=0 tweak was suggested by Jeff as well in the thread to help fix stuttering:
