Sage Service Issue

I'm not sure if this is really a bug or not, but it's something that I find a nuissance and it would be nice if it were resolved.

I use my PVR box with my laptop, and often have to unplug it (the laptop) and move it to another room without turning it off or restarting it.

In the meantime, the SageTV service keeps running (no problem yet).

The problem is that when I reattach the device to my laptop that Sage never quite picks it up again until I manually restart the service. If there's a recording and I haven't restarted the service, Sage will just record static for the duration of the recording. If I restart the service first, though, no problem. It records correctly.

It's a bit of an annoyance to have to remember to stop and re-start the Sage service every time I disconnect the USB device and reconnect it.

Since restarting the service fixes the problem, the fault seems to lie in the service not doing whatever it does when it's restarted automatically before it starts recording. It does *something* when the service starts, so maybe it could check now and again for whatever it sets up properly when it starts up.

Is there already a solution for this I'm missing?

I believe the falacy is in your thinking Sage Service starts & stops before and after scheduled recordings. I'm fairly certain once the Service is started it keeps running until stopped or restarted either manually, do to sys reboot, or on it's own do to the Service crashing for whatever reason (which hasn't happened to me as far as I know, but that's the purpose of running as a Service to auto-restart if problem occurs).

No, I know it starts and stays started.

My point is that it is possible for it to get into a state where it cannot receive a signal. When the service starts up, it does *something* to pick up the signal and be ready to record, but my complaint is that if the service ever loses the signal it never tries to pick it up again. Restarting the service, not the PC, solves the problem, but it would be nice if it checked itself automatically. I wrote a script to automatically kill and restart the service, but it's just a workaround.

And by "signal" here I mean a workable connection to the PVR. I have a Hauppauge WinTV USB2.
