Buying a Video Card

I have searched through the older answers, but finally decided to just ask for more input.

I'm looking at converting an older machine (p4 1.4GHz) machine to a PVR box. I'm going to drop 512MB of RAM (maybe a gig) and a 250GB HD in it. For now I'm starting with a Hauppage 350.

What I'm trying to figure out is which video card?

I want to use DVI to go to a Sony 46" HD Widescreen TV.

I was thinking MSI Nvidia 6200 AGP

I'm looking for one as inexpensive as possible (obviously).

Thanks!

I think you'd be better served with one of these:

The inno3d 6200 agp is working for me with no tears and (after CPU, RAM upgrade) stutters. But my desktop is set to only 720*576@50Hz, YMMV at hi def resolutions.

using Sage 2.2.8 btw

Cheers
Eric

Better check the last comment on that card, seems like it won't fit some Ahanix cases, and won't work with a Antec Overture case either.

got the card and am in the process of building the PC now.

First thoughts? The heat sink is freaking HUGE!! I mean it wraps around thecard. But it looks cool and fit fine in the case I have now

Got it hooked up and running last night finally. Looks pretty good at first shot. Didn't see any noticable skipping or studdering.

I went with Sage 3.0.5 Beta since it is a new install and I figure why not.

It did take me a little while to get the Nvidea to look a little cleaner on the TV. The desktop still looks like crap, but I'm not so worried about that.

So yea after an hour or so of working I can say I'm pretty happy

Will report back if there are any problems.

Thanks Stanger!
