Crashes when viewing TV with sound!
I just downloaded SageTV to help decide whether to use linux or windows on my planned HTPC. I tested it on a seperate PC with a Cinergy TV 400 tuner card.
After fighting the tuning of the channels(im in europe so i was confused to see channel numbers instead of frequencies), i checked that it had got a few of the channels correct and finished the setup. However when i go to TV guide click something and choose "Watch now"(i couldnt find any other way to just VIEW television) i get the following message in a dialog box and SageTV locks up completely: "There was a Capture Error in playback. Details: ERROR (-7,0x80004005): There was a problem setting up software audio compression." EDIT: Btw, during the tuning phase the channels could be viewed without crashes. Not the best of first impressions However, i assume that there is something trivial wrong somewhere, but ill be damned if i know what DScaler works fine btw, that is what i usually use to view TV on a PC, but of course its a complete HTPC solution like SageTV. It sounds like that is a software encoder card, which is not supported in SageTV v2. The v3 beta adds support for such cards, but in the long run, you would be better off using a hardware encoder since the recording quality will be better and it doesn't use much cpu while recording.
See the SageTV System Requirements. The Hauppauge hardware encoders are quite popular. - Andy

I most certainly do plan to use a hardware encoder(such as the PVR-150 or 250), BUT i was planning to do a dual-tuner setup, so that in the case where the hauppage card is recording, i could fall back and watch using the Cinergy.
Reusing the old software only card could save me rather alot of money, so its not exactly a trivial issue for me Thanks for your response, i guess ill try the beta to get a feel for things. |
