Default settings?

There are many places in the Detailed Setup where you can specify "Default" for the setting. e.g. Video Renderer Is there some place that the Default setting is displayed or stored so I know what the setting is?

After removing 3.0.5 and reverting to 2.2.8, I notice that my CPU usage was still very high. 35 - 90% After many complete uninstall/reinstalls I discoverd that this was being caused by the Video Renderer setting. I had always had it set to "Default" but that now causes the high CPU usage. It visually appears that "Default" == Overlay which is what I want however, if I specify Overlay, the CPU usage drops back to the normal range of 5 - 20%. Can anyone explain this?

Default (in Sage terminology) means "Preferred" in Windows/Directshow terminology. Sage has no control over what "Default" is. In a nutshell, it will be the same as what Windows Media Player uses.

As for video renderer:

Audio:
Default is whatever is specified in the Audio tab of the Windows Sounds and Audio Device Properties control panel applet.

And decoders are whatever the preferred decoder is on the system, this utility will tell you which they are and allow you to change it:

A) Where is this information displayed?

B)How is it that it worked just fine (5 - 20% CPU usage) before? (It was always set to Default)

C) How come there is no VMR7 option in the Video Renderer setting?

MSDN, see above.

Not sure, that's the bad thing about using "Default" it's hard to be sure exactly what you're getting, especially the more stuff you install.

Because "Default" is VMR7 and there's really no good reason to use it.

On other thing about 'default' is that it can change if you have post-processors installed...

Eg, if you set certain settings in FFDSHOW (IIRC enable the 'raw video' codecs), it then becomes the 'default' renderer, and you have to configure the video renderer settings in FFDSHOW itself.

EG2: if you install Reclock, it becomes the 'default' audio renderer.
