On some configurations VMR9 is actually clearer than Overlay (and then again on others its the reverse) Oh and Overlay usually only works on one monitor. Other than that it should be fine for most people especially now that theres transparancy.

Its not really a sage problem anyways, snapstream and a few others have similar issues. Naturally mce dosn't.

Same reasons as Stanger89 ...

Sounds like a good idea. The only difficulty / problem is switching between Sage and MyHD. You have to shut down Sage, start up the MyHD software, switch inputs on the TV. The MyHD software is, how do you say this gracefully, not as "mature" as Sage. It does work but very clunky to use.

I am going to keep the MyHD card, it may prove usefull in the future. Of course, I'm also "saving" my 15 year old US Robotics external modem, among other treasures. You never know when 2400 baud dial-up may be needed !

I have found that VMR9 looks much better on my system than overlay. Plus I like the transparent OSD, but not that I think about it, that may now be available using overlay.

I'd say the MyHD software is very mature, however it is also very limited, and rather "old school". It's OSD is probably akin to what you'd see on a 1st gen set-top DVD burner/recorder.

Depending on drivers, you may not get the full picture with overlay @ 1080i (half picture problem), or IIRC you don't get full resolution at 1080i. Or there have been reports of the later at least.

similar experience. Dual plextors on the new beta with latest plextor drivers seem even more unstable. Repeated sageTV and Windows crashes- error code comes up as Driver related (But intervening recordings are ok- can record DivX mode from both plextors simultaneously- just too much instability). Now back to single plextor with old drivers- seems to be working ok so far.

Just in case anyone is only following this thread, v.3.0.7 beta is now available.

Thanks all, and Ken, for your replies. I'm not a huge fan of the MyHD software either, but if I have an old PC and only a small amount to invest, I'm stuck with it for now.

If you have to shut-down Sage in order to play a file with MyHD, then having both boards in the PC isn't going to do me much good. The idea was to watch whatever (recordings made earlier or DVDs), whenever (without regard to what's on the record schedule) using the MyHD, but do scheduling and recording through A180. My PC would likely bog-down if I tried to do software playback and recording. The most annoying thing about the MyHD, that I'm trying to get around, is having to juggle viewing with recording; MyHD will interrupt your viewing live TV or your playback if a scheduled event comes-up, which is a major PITA.

Can someone confirm that Sage can't continue to record while the MyHD is active? For those unfamiliar, the MyHD card has a component or DVI out that goes directly to your TV (nothing to do with your video board). I have 6 inputs on my TV, and selecting the MyHD input is no big deal. As long as Sage can continue to record in the background, I'm okay.

And the other concern, which looks like maybe a showstopper, is the ability of MyHD to playback files recorded with the other tuner. Unless I can play those files with the MyHD hardware, it's not going to solve the problem.

I think what were were saying is that you have to change interfaces. The Sage service will continue running (and recording) even when SageTV is "closed".

Interesting...

I've already played around with controling the Fusion app via Girder and I had very little luck, due to its wacky UI implementation.

Naturally, the downloads on that page are longer online, so I posted a request.

Thanks, man.

Well I was thinking more using the IP protocol directly, I'm not a big fan of girder anymore. Actually I never was (too overwhelming) but since they started charging for basically the same thing (not the massive improvementes in UI that were talked about) I'd rather just do without.

Thanks,
ED
