EDIT: NM, figured out you have to change the output format to Mplayer in SA.
Mplayer.

EDIT: Oh, see you figured it out. That was funny.

What I am experiencing: ShowAnalyzer consistently skips commercials about 10 seconds early, and also ends them 10 seconds early. For example, I'll be watching a show, and before the show actually hits a commercial, it will skip forward, and begin playing again in the middle of the last commercial before the show starts again. It seems as though the commercial length has been detected correctly, but has been shifted "to the left" about 10 seconds.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this? It seems to have started about the time of the 0.7xx series (or it may have been the 0.6's, I can't remember). I have uninstalled completely, and reinstalled before. It's gotten to the point where we disable automatic skipping because we're always missing that little bit at the end of the segment. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
I have the exact same issue. If you figure it out let me know.

Kevin

I noticed a little bit of that. Not 10 seconds but around 3-5 for me and not consistently.

Could it be an error in the device doing the playback? Ie., the commercial is detected correctly, but the playback is putting hole in the wrong place? When I switched from txt to edl in Sage TV, my commercial skipping became much more precise. But, I was only off by a few seconds with txt files.

That's one of the benefits of using edl files. I think it has something to do with directshow where giving the skip in actual time instead of frame number increases the accuracy.

It very well could be the device for me but I don't know. I have used both (txt/edl) and currently only use edl and have for sometime. It's usually not bad enough that I care but sometimes it agitates me a tad

Yes, it can be annoying. There is a test though. Get a copy of VideoRedo or VirtualDub and note the time (or frame number) that the commercial actually begins and compare it to SA's output. A discrepancy of half a second or 15 frames or so is normal. Anything above that indicates a problem.

If it is consistant enough, you can use the padding settings in SAConfig to adjust the start and end of the commercials by a set amount.

And, for those interested, I just uploaded an update to the SchoolHouse. You can get it and older versions at www.dragonglobal.org/downloads.htm.

SA Stops in the middle of a show

I have recently upgraded to version 0.7.11 and show analyzer stops in the middle of some shows and does not run at all against other shows.

I have to delete all of the .txt and .edl files and reset DIRMON and it will run. It usually runs fine for one day and then the next day it starts stopping again.

Any ideas? I do have a couple of the log files, but they do not seem to show any issues, at least from what I can tell.

You could try using Comskip Monitor to automate the running of ShowAnalyzer. You can use it to automate running ShowAnalyzer or any other program. On the configuration screen "Configure Comskip Location" just click 'Browse' and select your ShowAnalyzer executable. It may work better for you on your particular system.

I had this same issue... I tried it on two separate PC's. SA would just get stuck on a show and never finish (I let it sit for an entire day once). I completely uninstalled/reinstalled SA and DIRMON with no luck. I upgraded to the latest beta version and it has been happily processing ever since.

I'm not sure what you found so comical. Dirmon and CSM are just directory monitoring tools and they are both free. They are both useless without great programs like ShowAnalyzer. So if a user can automate ShowAnalyzer with one tool or the other, that should be a good thing.

Thanks, but the issue is not DIRMON2, it kicks off SA with no problem. They both start as expected, it is just SA does not always finish.

I had been concerned with going with the Beta, but perhaps that is what I need to do as well. Thanks.

I was initially getting lousy results with the betas until I deleted my default file and reinstalled and then used the new default as the basis for my customized versions.

In this political season ...

I want to thank Jere for his work on SA. Been using it for many months now and it works pretty well.

However, the main reason for this post is to let Jere know how much SA is appreciated during the political season. We haven't seen ANY political commercials, attack ads, or the rest of the political crap out there.

Of course, SageTV has to be included as well.

This is the first election in a long time we actually feel good about voting. Usually, by now we're ready to throw things at the TV.

Keep up the good work and DON"T run for elected office, we need you here !

I've found this to be a problem for other things as well. I live in Florida and I didn't know ANYTHING about a hurricane headed our way until the day before!

No worries. I enjoy the programming too much to be a poly-tick.
