Thanks ajuhawk.

BTW, I haven't looked into it in quite some time but does your SageEncoder stuff still work in the latest Sage?

I recently upgraded SA from 0.7.2 to 0.7.5 - the detection seems to be alot worse. Is there any tips for improving comercial detection with this version? Or should I try upgrading to 0.7.6?

First off, congratulations on the baby girl Jere!! Take all the time you need, we'll all gladly wait.

dblaine - I haven't worked on SageEncoder in a long while as I got busy at work and interest seemed to go away about the same time...so either it's working really well or no one is using it...but there's another thread for those discussions.

I've been pleased with v7.7 of SA. It's seems to be working fairly well in all regards for me.

Congrats Jere,

You can't go away though. The latest SA has crashed twice on me in the last 24 hours. I don't have any logs or really the time to collect them but I though I'd give you a heads up. I think its crashing on HDTV files that may have had poor OTA reception during the recording. Not sure though, the error message doesn't say which file crashed, just that it has "encountered a problem and needs to close." I'll try to spot it, log it, or recreate it if I have time in the next few days.

Enjoy your new bundle of joy.

Same here, and I think the two crashes I had were HD as well...

Try to isolate a file that crashes and, if you can, send it to me. PM me for instructions if you don't already have the ftp stuff.

I have tried virtually every version of SA after 0.6.2 and every one of them crashes on my SD files (windows message: showanalyzer has to close, etc). Usually I get a few hours between crashes, but basically the same behaviour for all the 0.7.X versions. Each time I revert to 0.6.2 the problems go away. I don't think 0.6.2 has ever crashed on me. I just tried 0.7.7 on a completely fresh install of winxp/sagetv/all software and same behaviour.

Would you be able to provide one of those files? If you can, just PM me for ftp info.

0.7.9 - 7 August 2006
- More stability improvements
- Found and fixed root cause of 0fps/0%cpu problem (Yay!!)
- File handles should now be released as soon as the scan is done.

This release should bring us back to 0.5.10-like stability. Next is bringing back the SchoolHouse!

I tell ya, I am so tired of "Avast" virus protection. SA 0.7.9 apparently flags it as a trojan horse. If this happens to you, please zip up the file that is triggering passworded with "virus" and email it to virus@avast.com with a subject of "False Positive". Maybe if enough do that then they will fix it.

Thanks Jere! So what you are saying, right now, there is no fix for this, other than disabling AV altogether... and I just sent Avast a zipped up file, so hopefully others in the forum do the same!

Done ...

Edit: spoke too soon, the email always gets rejected ...

Edit2: I sent the email again without attachment, but with a link to the SA download. In the meantime, you can exclude the SA files in avast without disabling the protection in general:

1) add the SA files (or the whole directory) to "Program Settings/Exclusions" (right click on avast icon)
2) add the SA files to "Standard Shield/Customize/Advanced (left click on avast icon)

Jere,
Can you add a button to the SA Status window that allows us to resume or pause a session on the fly? That way if a session is paused for what ever reason, we can force it to resume despite our preferences in SA Config or Dirmon2. Or if we want to pause it just long enough to perform some other task and then resume it later. Etc.

I was also wondering if there was a way to build into SA a means for determining how it was last shut down. Sometimes we need to force SA to exit in the middle of a session. If SA knew that it was not shut down properly or did not complete a session it could prompt us to delete what ever ouput was created before SA was shut down so that it could be rescanned. An auto recover function so to speak. That way we don't get the occational incomplete files.

Also maybe to include an abort button or something. This way if we need to reboot the machine before a session is done, we can abort the session and have it automatically delete the output file. After the reboot the file would be rescanned as normal.

I know you can set SA to only generate the file at the end scanning thus not creating an incomplete output file, however, that prevents you from detecting commercials when you have Live TV paused. etc.

Sound like great ideas to me. I was actually wondering if that could be done, since I've been troubleshooting some other problems I'm having with my system, I've rebooted it several times tonight, causing SA to create blank files on the files it was working on...

Sure. The functionality is already there. Right click on the tray icon and you should see "Pause processing". It the processing is already paused, then it will say "Resume processing". I can easily add it to the Status window though.

Good idea that! I don't know how I'll do it, but it should be doable.

This is a little easier and will certainly be added.

Good ideas, every one!

Sweet,
I wonder if you would also need or want to have SA send Dirmon2 a message to stop processing or wait x number of minutes before starting the next Job. That way if you abort a session another won't kick off immediately, leaving you some time to reboot the machine or what ever. Alternatively, you could make a "wait x minutes between jobs" feature in Dirmon2 so that when you force an abort on an SA session you have some time to restart the machine etc. Or if you abort the scanning just have it not exit SA. That way Dirmon2 won’t detect it as a completed session, when we shut down the computer SA will be closed at the same time as everything else.

So I guess you could have buttons that do the following.

*Pause/Resume
*Abort Scanning & Delete Output files/Restart Scanning
*Abort Scanning, Delete Output Files & Close SA (will be detected and re-run by Dirmon2, hopefully tell Dirmon2 to wait a while)

It might be nice to add a countdown timer to Dirmon2 anyway. That way if you want to stop processing for x amount of time in order to watch a movie (outside of sage) or play a video game etc. Then it would automatically resume later when you expected to be done.

Hi Jere,

I am running into an issue with SA where I can't get the icon to show in my taskbar. I am assuming it is because I have two simultaneous user sessions running and it is popping to the first one.

I setup dirmon2 to run as a service using a specific use which logs on solely via terminal session in hopes that the icon would show in the task bar. It doesn't seem to.

Included is the Dirmon2 Config:

I have the same problem but haven't had a chance to experiment to see what I need to do. So I would be interested in what the solution is as well.

Hey Jere-

If it is not too much trouble, I was hoping you check a couple of thngs for me.

1) The latest build is considerably more stable!!!! Thank you!!!!! However, it seems that while the commercial detection remains pretty accurate as before, the commercials that gets detected are "shifted" a few seconds - start a second or two late and go a second or two too long, or vice versa.
2) I have my settings set such that the last 60 seconds should never be marked as a commercial. This seems to not be working and, unfortunately, seems rather random in success.

Sorry for the trouble and thanks!

0.7.10 - 13 August 2006
- Added "Abort" and "Pause" buttons to status window. Aborting will delete the files that SA has created up to that point except the log files.
- More work on crashes when the edge profile window is open and SA trys to close.
- Fixed crash when trying to process a standard definition transport stream.
- Fixed crazy frame numbers when I frames aren't time stamped.

Enjoy,
Jere
