A little more help PLEASE (pvr-500 problem)

I have a PVR-500 tuner. In the coaxial input i have my basic cable tv (works fine), now I'm trying to get my Dish in the composite input as my second tuner input. I know I need one of the things that change the Dish, But for now I would like to change the Dish myself, I just want to make sure it works before I invest any more money in the changer thing.

Thank You
Deborah

What is the problem you are running into?

If you just want to know how to use it for now w/o having some way for SageTV to automatically change the channels on the STB, then in the source Setup Wizard, just choose the option to "Don't Configure Tuning" in step 3 -- see p. 113 in the v2.2 PDF manual, which is in your SageTV dir.

This is when using the Hauppauge PVR-500?? That error message makes it sound like it was trying to use a software encoder card, but the pvr-500 does hardware encoding. You don't have a software encoder card that you were configuring instead, do you? Is your ATI card an All-In-Wonder & you were configuring an input fro it?

If you were using the pvr-500 in SageTV, then I don't know what is happening. You could try one of more of the following:
  • use HCWCLEAR from Hauppauge to clear out the 500's driver & then reboot & re-install it (make sure you have the latest drivers for the pvr-500)
  • uninstall SageTV & re-install it (in this case, you want to get rid of all properties files & their autobackups in order to start with a fresh configuration; perhaps save copies first)
  • and/or contact SageTV tech support to see what they have to say about this.

I am a bit unclear here. The PVR-500 only has 1 coaxial input. It has an internal splitter to get that input to the two encoders. If you want to use a different source you have to plugin via composye/svideo.

Do you have the second bracket with the second set of inputs for your PVR500? If not, you need to set up the first tuner with composite in and also your audio in. Set up the second tuner for your coax.

I have Cablevision comming in on the coaxial input, and I'm trying to get Dish Network in thru the composite input (less the s Cable). I don't have a second bracket. My ATI is not an all in one.
Thank you all for your help, the pvr card didnt come with any info.

The coax feeds both tuners via internal splitter. As mentioned above since you don't have the adapter for the 2nd tuner you'll need to configure Sage with the 1st tuner for the Dish and the 2nd tuner for coax Cable.

How is your tuner card setup? In setup wizard do you have 3 sources setup
The first encorder should be setup for tune cable input and also setup for sattelite on your composite input, go ahead and go through the motion of setup up for dish. Just don't duplicate channel numbers.

The 2nd encoder should just be setup for cable RF input.

When complete on the Main setup wizard screen you should have three sources setup. You will need to buy a bracket from Haupauge, for the composite input of the 2nd encoder.
