Different Channel Lineups

Hi all, I am almost ready to take the plunge and get a PVR 500. Few questions on how i will set the channels. I have DTV and one box that will tune all the channels via IR transmitter. The second box I have can only tune to channels above 100 (same provider, same linup--i just can't tune to below 100) by Serial Control---and this is not a problem with an update, just a limitation of the older Sat B3 boxes. So, when I am setting up the different tuner's for the PVR 500, do I just set up one tuner for all the DTV channels I want, and then for the other tuner, just select the same thing but remove the channels below 100?
Thanks
JUC

Okay, one more question as well. I only have one serial port on my Shuttle and that is currently used by an Actisys 200 to change channels on my box. I also have the Sony Satb3 which has a serial port that I plan on using a serial cable with to change channels. Is there such a thing as a 1 to 2 serial converter--and would it work? Or, can I get a USB-->serial converter and would that work (how would I designate Com1, 2,3... if it is USB?). I would prefer not to buy a USB-UIRT at this time but probably will when I add another tuner down the road.
Thanks
JUC

Usually when you look at your providers listing there would a cable listing and a digital cable listing I thought.

To do something like that, you'll have to be able to select 2 different providers, so that you end up using 2 different channel lineups. Channels are associated with a lineup, not a source, so when you enable/disable channels on a lineup, it affects all sources using that lienup.

hmm, not really following you. Can I even do what I wanted to do? Two DTV receivers inputting to the PVR 500. One STB can only tune above channel 100 and the other can get them all. I thought I could just configure one source's linup to have all channel's and the other to have some---same provider though. If this is not possible, would it be possible if I had say 2 PVR 150's and not the single 500?
Thanks
JUC

edit: maybe there is a way for me to select another DTV lineup for the one i will not be using local channells on??

It isn't related at all to the capture device(s) you are using -- it is just that if 2 sources use the same provider/lineup, they share the channel configuration. In order to have each source use differnt channels, they have to use different lineups. (I remember this coming up w/other people using DTV when they had boxes w/different capabilities, but I don't know what they might have done.)

got it. I think DTV has multiple linups depending on the area code you enter so I think I should be able to enter a different area code and just enable the channels i want associated with that linup. We'll see though
Thanks

Oh -- I remembered one other thing... I don't have DTV, but I thought people said that the channels below 100 were duplicated on some higher channels. _If_ that is true, then you could just disable all the lower channels & use only the higher numbers.

thanks....but it doesn't work in my area. For some reason they don't offer my locals in the upper channels (why they do this for other areas and not mine--no clue). I guess I could just get myself another STB that supports serial control and tunes below 100 though.
Thanks for the help

I had a similar issue, mine was one DRD486RH RCA that tuned to locals below 100, and two old RCAs that tuned to locals using channels in the 800s.

Only fix, I called direct TV and explained how having recievers that have to tune to local channels using different channel numbers is confusing and they gave me a $100 dollar credit to buy 2 new recievers.

I bought two D10-100s, it all worked fine until DTVs recent firmware upgrade to the D-10, now serial control does not work below 100, although I understand IR control still works. I ended up canceling local chanells and plugged an antenna into my PVRs to watch locals over the air.

Also, only the -100 supports serial control, -200, -300, and -400 do not.

So if they give you a credit, try to find an older reciever than the D10 on ebay, perhaps an RCA of the DRD486 vintage.
