CC using overlay & Picture Quality

Does anyone know if (Sage's native) closed captioning will/should work w/ overlay? I'm seeing blurry/soft images w/ VMR9 (which I'm reading is somewhat typical vs overlay), but CC doesn't seem to display w/ overlay.

Thanks
David

Have you seen the last page of the v2.2 manual? If not, it mentions disabling overlay color keying, so make sure you are trying it with that setting. Or, you may need to try a different decoder.

Sharpening up the picture

Thanks. It must have been the color keying, since I tried it again last night and it worked (much to my surprise). I must have disabled the color keying at some point after having tried it last. Oops. Sorry to waste your time.

Any thoughts re improving picture quality? I just can't seem to get it as sharp as the output from my cable box. It's just a little "soft focused," which is going to prevent me from making it my primary system. (My wife very much prefers the output from our cable box).

I've tried:
- Overlay instead of VMR (best so far, but still not optimal)
- Intervideo, NVidia codecs (only ones that seem to work w/ CC)
- Maxing out the card's sharpness setting (7 (and 255 in color calibration))
- Weave interleave
- DVD standard (MPEG max quality doesn't work w/ CC)
- Stepping down the video card's flicker adjustment (all the way to nothing)
- Setting the video card's S-video sharpness to it's max setting

------------------
- Should I be looking at a better video card?
- I've seen suggestions re using ffdshow to resize the video output to higher resolution and then using VMR

I have:
Radeon 9200 SE
1.8 GHz Duron
1 GB RAM
