Streamzap Power On/Off TV

I am using Streamzap to control my HTPC. I was wondering if I could also use it to power on/off my TV and possibly my audio receiver? Thanks.

I dont think this is doable with the standard remote it comes with. If you get a universal remote and program it for streamzap that is an option. The only other way to get it to work that I can think of is with a uirt. I havent done that though.

Streamzap UIRT

I was thinking I'd probably have to use UIRT. If I buy that will the Streamzap remote be able to shutoff my TV and audio receiver? Anybody know?

Not by itself. You would need Girder and program it to blast the IR code for your TV and audio receiver. What you need is a learning remote that can learn the IR code for your TV and receiver. That would be much easier.

Learning Remote

Thanks. I've done some reading and it mentioned Girder so I figured I would probably have to figure that out no matter how tough it is. What do you mean by a learning remote? I currently have a universal remote that I use to run the TV and receiver, is that what you mean? Do I use those codes?

That depends, if your universal remote is a learning remote, what you would do is learn the streamzap buttons/codes into the learing remote as another device, then you would use the learning remote instead of the streamzap one in the same way you use the learning remote instead of the TV remote.

However if your remote is just a "universal" meaning you only punch in codes, you're SOL. If this is the case, your best option would probably be to get the UIRT, and dump the Streamzap. What you would do is configure a third device on your universal remote (say a Tivo or something PVR-ish), then you would go through the Sage configuration and learn the codes/buttons from the Tivo/PVR config in your remote to the appropriate actions/commands in SageTV. This avoids any cumbersome Girder configuration.

Don't get me wrong, you could use your Streamzap+UIRT+Girder and set it up so that the Streamzap controlled everything, but the way I mentioned above would be a much simpler, and IMO better way to do it.
