Angry New User Needs Help!

I am trying to pick a new HTPC app for my HTPC, the one that came with the barebones ASUS Digimatrix is slow, clunky, wont timeshift and uses titantv as its guide, but only partially works

I guess the best question to post here is:
Will sagetv work with the Lifeview WDM card.

From what I have seen sage is probably the slickest HTPC UI/ App.
The digimatrix is the slickest machine for HTPC use (although the remote is anemic, but logitechs wireless suite and/ or an ati remote makes up for it) oh and the optical out is in the front, but im doing okay with the direct 6 channel out of the back into logitech z-680 system.

Thanks for your help.

Never heard of the lifeview card... What chipset does it use? If it's hardware mpeg2 compression it should work in theory. Download the trial and test it.

As for what's best... Sage appears to be the best of the windows crowd. If you are very familiar with linux you might want to look at MythTV as well. I like sage, but I'm not above pointing out the competition if it warrants.

/me runs away trying to avoid getting hit.

agreed

I went many rounds with an 'x htpc. Did the MythPC thing a couple of years ago, liked it but... anyway ive stuck to win machines since, Usually had better luck.

Okay, Ill have to do more research on the card, im not sure what its compression is. It has worked well through the ASUS hometheater software, but the ASUS HTPC is slow and not well structured. It looks like a bad copy of myHTPC, before Pablo and the gang sold it (now known as Meedio).

Still looking for help! Thanks!

You could always just download the SageTV demo and give it a try...

I don't think so, I believe that's what's often called a Flyvideo, which doesn't have a hardware encoder, so it's not supported by Sage.

"WDM" most likely its a software tuner, so no hardware encoder, which SageTV requires.

However, like others mentioned, download the SageTV trial and test it anyway, as with the later 2.2.x versions, I noticed my nVidia WDM tuner started showing up in SageTV tuner setup wizard. I haven't tried activating it in SageTV because BeyondTV is using that tuner for LiveTV streaming. But here's the screenshot of the WDM tuner in SageTV 2.2.8:
