Client S3 Resume

There's been a lot of talk about power management on the forums. Especially related to the Server and recording... This post is related to Resuming from S3 Standby on a client-only machine.

I am sure others will have more issues with this; I'll start with mine:

After resume from S3 standby on Client (Server awake always), TV playback occasionally stutters and DVD playback constantly stutters. (Note: Before Standby- ALL is great.)

Since everything works well before standby, it's likely not an issue like Java verison, page file size, buffers, etc. (tried these BTW).

(Running Sage v2.2.8, 512MB RAM on Clients)

What CODECs are you using for TV/DVD?

And it always studders, regardless of what client I use (all are different). Which blows.

NV DVD (TV) + InterVideo or Sonic (DVD). Runs fine until S3. Then after S3 Resume the DVD playback has constant stuttering.

I've tried most suggestions... going to now try the Java 1.5, but I doubt that will have an effect because there's no problems before S3. Also, restarting Sage does not fix the problem. However, if (after S3) I change the DVD Decoders to something else... play... change them back... then it works ok.

This sounds more and more like a Sage issue... but let's see what others think.

I had the same issue when coming out of S2. I managed to resolve it by using overlay instead of VMR. This was on my client machine that doesn't have a very good video card (nVidia 4800 I think) so overlay was a better option for me anyway.

Thanks for the feedback guys... I am using overlay as well for stability.

Note: I tried Java 5 and no go...

@dagar: If you have stuttering always, then something is definitely wrong. With all the HW and SW combinations possible, this could be tough to troubleshoot. -I can say that I had a hard time getting TV not to stutter for a while, NVIDIA cleared that up for me... and using the VPP should help a lot (SW or HW- there are threads on how to set these to work). Be careful with the NVIDIA decoders though; if you have every decoder known to man on your machine, you will likely have problems no matter what you do. I say pick a decoder or two and no more. I also found that the "trial" verison of NV DVD had some playback errors on my machine, so go with the "retail" (purchased) version, once the store re-opens (note: the D/L file says "retail" in it).
