Stopping Hauppauge remote from controlling TV

Hi everyone, I tried to find someone on the forums with this problem already, but couldn't find a thread that seemed to match.

I have the Hauppauge 45 button remote, and I got the setup file which makes it work wonderfully with Sage. However, the remote also happens to control my TV, and I don't want it to. Sometimes when I'm changing channels in Sage, if I point towards my TV a little too much, the channel on my TV changes instead. This is, of course, very frustrating.

From what I can tell, the configuration settings for the IR receiver only change what frequency the blaster puts out - not the remote itself. Am I just out of luck, and need to put something in front of the IR receiver on my TV when I'm using Sage?

Sounds like you do need to block the IR receiver. I don't have this problem with my TV.

Yeah, just put some tape over the little sensor on the front of the TV.
But that is the lazy man method.

And it also means I can't turn my TV off with any remote - not to mention I lose volume control and such.

The only option I know of (other than blocking the TV's IR receier) is to do one of these:
  1. By a new TV. (You probably have a Philips TV, so don't buy another one.)
  2. Buy a new remote and IR receiver.

The problem is that the Hauppauge remote uses the same IR protocol that many Philips TVs use. The remote is _supposed_ to use a code set that the TV doesn't use, but it seems like some of the TVs may not be correctly checking which code set they respond to.

You can't reprogram the Hauppauge remote or the TV, so use another remote that doesn't use the same IR protocol as the Hauppauge remote... which means you also have to use another IR receiver, since the Hauppauge receiver can't receive any other protocol.
