Broken imports...
Imported video files that is...
Does anyone else have problems with xvid and divx files when played back from within sage? About 60% of all files I copy over to my import directory or on dvd that I have also set up as an import area, refuse to play at all. Some of them drop back to the menu, some drop back to the menu but start chewing up cpu time, some of them will show a black screen like they are going to play but have a negative time index in the status bar...... I originally thought they were broken files, but I can drop out to an external player and play them just fine. |

I was having a problem like this when I would attempt to play videos downloaded from the web. The videos are encoded as pal but my tv system is ntsc. Sage didn't know what to do with the files, so I re-encoded the files into ntsc (320x240) mpg files. That fixed the problem for me. Now if I could only re-encode quicktime movies to mpgs...

I've had a problem if I was was copying a file into an import folder over the network, or un-RARing a file into the import folder. In both cases, it would take 5-10 minutes to finish the copy. IIRC, it was mentioned that Sage would scan the new file while it was still being copied, and record it as an incomplete file and that is why it would not play right after the copy finished.
I now copy or unRAR into a different folder on the same drive and then move the file over, it moves instantly and does not give Sage time to scan an incomplete file. So far, I haven't had any problems when doing it that way. The way I have fixed it when I have had a "broken" file is to move all the files into a different directory on the same drive, remove the import directory from Sage, rescan for files in Sage, reinstall the import directory in Sage, rescan, then move files back to import directory, and rescan again. Why you are having problems reading off of a DVD, I dunno |
