DD 5.1 recording

hi all.
say we had a legit HDTV version of sage in the near future.
what kind of hardware would let you record the audio so it remains in 5.1 format? everythig i have seen only records in stereo.

That's because everything available at the consumer level (under $4000) is analog. Nothing that I know of at consumer level will record DD. Firewire seems like the best hope for DD and HDTV recording.

Since OTA cards capture the bitstream you get full DD with OTA HD. But there's no way to capture DD audio unless you're "card" captures the whole A/V bitstream direct (ie you can't record it from an STB output).

would love to figure out the pin out then for the "tarnsport stream output" on my bell 6100 receiver (dishnetwork 811).
i see it is a header on the unit motherboard... but no socket there. and no cable... and no understanding of what it is (but one can assume it is for streaming to a HDD if it was PVR).
