How to migrate Sage off a drive.
I've a drive that is not formated at 64KB and I would like to remove it from Sage's video listings. I then plan on moving all ripped DVDs and music to the drive as they are static and a single defrag should fix the problems I'm having. Currently the DVDs and music reside on a disk that is formated with 64KB sectors.
As I have current shows that I have not viewed on the drive, and don't want to loose them I'm trying to come up with a migration plan. What I plan to do is change the settings on the drive for keep 100GB free. The drive is 100GB but I'm not sure what Sage will do. Will it delete all the shows trying to free up 100GB? Will in not record any new shows on that drive until it has > 100GB free? The second option is what I'm hoping as I will then be able to watch shows, and delete them over time and be able to keep Sage from recording new shows on the drive. Then when all shows have been deleted I can migrate the DVDs and music, while at the same time removing the drive from the video list. Thanks, |

What you could do, if I am interpreting your statements correctly, is shutdown sage, move your recordings to the drive with 64k formatting, then change the drive letter to be the same as it was on the drive you took them off of. You would have to change the drive letter of the original drive first of course, so the letter is free in the OS again. This would let you move your shows to a 64k formatted drive, and not have to have sage freak out that the files are gone.
As for the 100GB thing, I would expect that Sage would no longer record to the drive if the amount of free space is not higher than 100GB. This means you could slowly migrate as you erase shows, but I would call that a tedious approach.

If you remove a video recording dir, it will still see the shows recorded there, so they won't disappear, but new shows will no longer record to the location. If you set the existing video recording dir to leave all space free, any auto-deletable shows will probably get deleted as it tries to make room, so you would have to mark the existing recordings as Manual Recordings so that they wouldn't get deleted.
But... there are tools to change the cluster size on an existing partition (Partition Magic & Acronis' partition too, whatever it is called). Or, if the drive isn't used for anything other than recordings, you could copy them elsewhere if there is space to do so & reformat in Windows. (Of course, that is only an option if you _want_ that specific drive to have 64K clusters...) - Andy

So it appears that if I remove the drive from the video directories I will not loose my recordings, and I will still be able to see them?
Seems like you could add the drive to the library path and automagically archive the entire drive and keep all info? |
