Greetings, Firefly, Girder, UIRT. Oy!
Hi all,
First post here. I'm new to the HTPC biz, just got Sage up and running a couple of weeks ago. I've made, oh, roughly 50 bazillion mistakes and incorrect assumptions along the way, and this board has been immensely helpful. So thank you all for the help you've provided so far. My current abortion here is with regards to using the Firefly remote and the USB-UIRT. I've downloaded the trial of the latest Girder and I also have the wired transmitters so I'll be able to control two digital STBs (I have the PVR-500). These are my questions: 1. I tried using the Firefly remote for the first time last night. (Until yesterday, I was using the Streamzap that I got with the PVR-500 bundle.) I went through the setup with no problem, all buttons being recognized, etc. When I tried to use it with Sage, however, only some of the buttons worked. "Menu" did nothing, while "Exit" (as expected) brought up the menu that normally comes up when no menu is on the screen. "Mute" worked, but I couldn't change the volume up+down (!). None of the play controls worked -- play, pause, stop, ff, etc. Has anyone seen this? Did I miss a plugin somewhere, and/or is Girder required for full Firefly functionality in Sage? (I hadn't yet downloaded and installed Girder.) 2. Am I correct in underrstanding that I can hook up the RF receiver for Firefly and have Girder receive the commands from the remote and then hand them off to the UIRT as appropriate? I saw a thread from last year where Stacy was trying to get this going, but I don't think the end result was posted. Has anyone done this successfully? If so, what do I need to configure in Girder (besides checking UIRT, Firefly, etc. in the settings) to get this to work? These are the latest stumbling blocks in what has become a much harder road than I anticipated (everything seems obvious in hindsight, but it's painful getting there!), but I still have faith that the setup I want is waiting for me at the end! Thanks much!! Best, Ron |

I see no response to your question ... I am also considering a Firefly and am interested if you ever solved your Firefly problem?

I used to have the firefly way back when. I had it working with Girder too. You need to download the Girder plugin from the snapstream website first. Then I think you need to find or make your own Sage Profile. I've attached one of my Sage Client profiles that I had so you can play around with it but I'm sure other people have newer or better ones on this forum. Hopefully all you have to do is Learn the new commands.

Mightyt: I did indeed get this working, just as Phantom describes. I downloaded the 30 day trial of Girder from their website and got it all setup (just grab the Firefly plugin and the file Phantom posted and go step-by-step through the documentation that comes with Girder, it's more straightforward than it looks at first glance). I'm very pleased with Firefly and Girder and paid for Girder ($20) after I got things working without any problems for a couple of weeks. Good stuff. Let us know how you make out.

So, is Girder 4.0 worth it over 3.31c? Will it provide me more functionality specifically with Sage?? Is it worth paying the $38 ... ? T. |

As long as you have the girder plugins that work with your remote and it does what you need it to do you can stick with 3.31. It's pretty useful. There's a lot more you can do with 4 and they are redoing the plugins to work with it.

When you say "they are redoing the plugins to work with it." about Girder 4 ... who is they? Someone here updating the SageTV Plug-in for it? Thanks, T. |
