usb-uirt sometimes going to wrong channels

this just happens sometimes. I haven't really identified anything that's in common each time it happens.

sometimes sagetv will change to a channel to record something, let's say channel 70. the usb tries to change the tv. but for some reason the cable box ends up on 7, NOT 70. sagetv still thinks it's 70 though.

is this a common problem? any idea how to fix it?

I don't know how common it is on sage, but it's a pretty common issue on TiVO. I'd say maybe two times a week my tivo will change the channel and drop a digit out. I think it's just the unreliability of relying on an ir blaster rather than through a serial interface.

are you using stick-on ir emitter? or are you just relying on the blaster itself to bounce the signal around the room. the stick-on emitters are much more effective, you just connect it to the back of the usb-uirt and stick it to where the ir reciever is located on your cable box. SmartHome has them for like 8 bucks i think.

thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind if I decide to go that route

my cable box has an IR input jack. how do I use that exactly? what sort of cable would I need for that, and where would I get it?

good question, what does it look like? you might want to try the usb-uirt forums to see if the developer knows if that would work, it would be cool to run the cable to the back instead of having the little sticky on the front.

I have this problem everytime I had to reinstall Sage. I have to go into the Setup Wizard, then into the tuner and click on the usb-uirt and test the channels. For some reason I get a problem with the 7 button sometimes not working or working wrong. So if it tries to change to channel 73 it will either turn to 73, 777, 3 or 773. I just reprogram the 7 button and everything works great.

Are you having an issue with a certain #, or is it every #?

as far as I can tell it's just random.

I'm looking into controlling it directly via the IR input jack on the cable box but no one seems to know anything about it

I had a problem with 7 and 2... 7 took me one retrain to get it right. The two however... Wow. It took me about 10 retrains to get it to REALLY get the right number. That was on a DCT6200 series.

According to the manual on the 6208 the IR port is for controling a VCR so it is an output port DCT6200-08
