newbie to sagetv and I have some questions

OK, I am a newbie to sagetv (PVRing in general actually).

My setup is a pvr-500 running SageTV and SageTV Client (trial versions 10 days left on trial I think) attached to my MediaMVP which is attached via SVIDEO to my TV. I use an analog Cable connection as my source on both of my tuners

Plugins
Zap2it EPG and Webserver (both work great!)

Now for my questions :

1) Everything is set at defaults for my setup. I am not using any decoders other then what SageTV installed and configured for me. I am happy with the picture on my TV, but show I expect more? I hear many people talking about ffdshow and NVDVD. Do I need these to improve the picture even more? Will they even have an effect since I am not watching TV on my PC, but rather via my MediaMVP.

2)Given that I am running the trial versions of SageTV and SageTV Client I will need to buy them within the next 10 days or so if I wish to use this software. Does anyone know what the upgrades cost? If there is a 2.3 or a 2.4 coming out will I get that for free? I hear much about 3,0 coming out soon. Will that be a free upgrade (or a reduced cost) for owners of 2.2.8?

3) How can I burn a copy of a recorded show onto a DVD?

SageTV's current upgrade pricing policy is located at the bottom of the page here. Essentialy: currently there is no charge for version upgrades & it has already been announced that v3 will also be a free upgrade for existing customers.

Decoders and such have no effect on the MVP.

I agree - Sage is AWESOME!

BTW, it comes bundled with a DVD burning application, ULEAD DVD MovieFactory 2 SE. It's a great piece of idiot-proof software. Makes the DVD menus for you, and you can create your own custom background image from a .JPG etc. file, and add and MP3 music file for background music. Looks very professional! I have used it to make/archive some shows like Robot Chicken and The Family Guy.

Good luck & enjoy.

Hi Steve. I am currently using the trial, which is why I did not know about the ULEAD DVD MovieFactory.

Just so I can understand this, If I buy the SageTV (and SageTV Client) I will get an email which contains a key for both of these programs, and a link to download ULEAD DVD MovieFactory ? WOW!

Am I understanding this right? Sounds TERRIFIC! Can you confirm?

I think he means that the DVD program is included with some or all of the Hauppauge encoders. The Plextor comes with WinDVD Creator. SageTV itself does not provide any DVD creation software as part of the SageTV software product.
