Stability and PVR500

My current system uses multiple Roslyns, and the audio dropout is driving me nucking futs

Anyhow, what I am wondering, are there any PVR500 users out there that are experiencing that sort of 'issue' specifically? Or for that matter, any other issue(s)?

Thanks!

Just make sure the 500's will work with your motherboard. I had the nightmare of going through a few systems before getting the 500's to play nice. Using an Asus with NVidia chipset and my 2 500's have been working great for about 4 months.

Asus with Nforce here too. The cards also worked on a VIA KT333 Chipset board I had before. But I've heard of some problems with the Via chipsets and the PVR500

Yeah, I plan on using one of my AN7 boards when I rebuild my server (current server is a diff AN7 board). I intend to see how things 'shake out' on the PCI-E and cable-card front before I jump into one of those swank new NF4U boards (either the Gigabyte or MSI most likely.)

My plan is to get 2 PVR500s, recap my PVR250, hook up my 6200, and get a BDA HD board. Pop in a couple of 300GB Maxtor NCQ drives (Costco has em for a decent price here with a SATA2 controller for NCQ) and pop in the SATA2 card -- be curious to see how well it runs with 5 cards in -- won't hold my breath :P

I'm waiting to stabilize my Sage system before I roll out another 5 clients

Too bad about the Ros cards. Though I got them for a good price at PCAlchemy about a year ago (awesome place to buy from btw ).

I have three PVR-500's in my system, and they all work great! No problems at all in Sage.

any problems with recorder working with a 500? If not, how do you get it to use two tuners? Run two versions of recorder on the same box but different ports?

thx

Since Recorder doesn't support a PVR 150, it's not going to support the PVR 500.

guess that means I'd have to run a second copy of sage on my remote machine to get the use out of a 500 as my main machine has no more slots available...

That seems silly....wouldn't the Sage core, and Sage Recorder use the same recording engine? Head scratcher for sure...

FWIW, I've had a 500 working wonderfully along side my pvr350 for a couple months now on my a7n8x-e, with no problems. GOSH I LOVE HAVING 3 TUNERS! I'm jealous of aperry though...6 tuners...how much storage do you have?

I have two 200 GB drives each on their own dedicated IDE channel (bought an IDE card for ~$20 for the additional IDE channels). The main C: drive and DVD drive are each on their own IDE channel as well. I didn't want to worry about drives competing on the IDE channels, especially since I could have 6 tuners writing to the same drive at the same time...

My C: drive (250GB) is not used for recordings (except for imported stuff, like the new Doctor Who episodes my buddy has been getting me). It has the system, SageTV and all its accoutrements, MAME with some games, and some other games I wanted to try on my HD RPTV screen (like Half-Life, and my all-time favorite The Neverhood Chronicles).

WHAT I WISH (and I put this in the 3.0 wishlist thread as well) is that I could specify a given drive/path for a given tuner. That way, I could spread the work around. Of course, it would also probably need the ability to "fall back" to one of the other drives if its default drive was full.

And here I thought I was the only one that DIDN'T return the Roslyn cards. Misery loves company so add me to the list as having the same audio dropouts. I was thinking of getting a couple 150's to replace them, but I am afraid to after the fiasco I had with the 250's a while back. Thanks for the help, guys.

Regards,

Beau
