DirecTV HD source?

Hello All,

I just received my HDTV monitor, and am now tuner shopping, will there be a way to record the 720p or 1080i video out of an DirecTV-HD set-top receiver othen then at the s-video level?

I have not seen a RGB or "Component Y-Pb-Pr" video capture card. Is there a card out there that will work with sage? (no tuner required).

Any ideas?

I know of only 1 card available that will record from component inputs, and it is $3500+ Problem is trying to pass that amount of information over the PCI bus. Pretty much not possible at the moment.

Not to mention trying to compress it to a format to store on your hard drive. You're talking about an HD-quality realtime MPEG2 encoder. At least $10K.

If the high bandwidth is a problem how will you guys record/play HDTV with an HDTV tuner card?. Would not the storge and bandwidth still be a problem?

The HDTV cards capture OTA (over the air) HDTV signals, which are already compressed. Therefore, the bandwidth is manageable until you uncompress the signal, which is only done prior to outputting the video signal.

OK. I'll bite. What card has a real time MPEG2 encoder? Or is it a stand alone piece of hardware?
