Client install
Hello,
I have recently downloaded the sage client trial. The install wizard wanted to install it in my existing sage directory so I allowed it to do so. I am getting some weirdness from the client (eg cant get the client to go full screen on the pc, strange remote control issues with mvp) and now that I think about it I seem to remember seeing something here on the forum about installing a client into a seperate directory. I searched but could not find anything on this. Neither was I able to find anything in the manual. I did however find the following in the mvp plug-in readme: Note: if you install the MVP Client into an existing SageTV folder (not recommended), make sure to backup it first! Installation as SageTV Client: 1. Install a fresh SageTV Client on the PC the SageTV server is running (you can use a different PC but it has to have the same drive mappings for the video folders as the server) 2. Unpack the Zip into the SageTV folder of the new Client installation. So should I have created a new directory called "sage client" or something and installed the client there instead of using the existing Frey Technologies/Sagetv directory? Thanks in advance, Jesse |

Are you using the MVP with the server (SageTV)? It sounds like your new client installation and SageTV are sharing the same SageClient.properties file. Among other things, that can happen when using the server in service mode, since the UI portion then runs as a pseudo-client.
So, yes, it sounds like you would be better off with the client installed into its own dir. - Andy

Hello Opus4,
Yes, I am using the mvp. Can I just un-install the client in the windows control panel and then re-install in a seperate directory? Is there any way to un-install the mvp plug-in so it can then go into the new dir with the client? Thanks again for your help!! Jesse |

Hmmm... I believe that if you uninstall SageTV or its client, the other is removed also. But, I think it also won't install to a new location if it is still installed. So, you may need to go through an uninstall/re-install process. It shouldn't affect your current setup, though, since the data files are not removed or replaced. I would make a complete copy of your existing SageTV dir before doing this, though, just in case some problem occurs.
For the MVP: check the MVP plugin thread in the hardware forum or Matt's plugin site for info on removing it from its current location. I think you just change its lines in the properties file in order to stop using it; I use it, but haven't dealt with its details in a while. Maybe someone else who knows more about it will come along... - Andy

easy way to install client when going to use MVP is install the client in a tempsage directory, unzip your mvp client files into the same temp directory, (actually I believe tempsage\sage client then create an MVP1 directory within program file\frey technology. copy all files and subdirecties that you extracted in the temp directory into your mvp directory. within the mvp client zip file is a .jpg, that shows a picture of what the direcotry structure should look like.
when your done, under \frey technology you should have a sage tv directory, mvp1 directory and common directory. their is a readme file included with mvp client that probably does a better job of explaining. |
