SageTV is deleting my recordings...

Hi,

SageTV seems to be deleting my recordings and I'm not sure why. Not every recording, for example, it will be a one-hour show that I've set to record, and as soon as it's finished, it gets deleted. It happens to different shows but I'm not sure what the pattern is or why it is deleting at all. I have plenty of space to accomodate the recording. It's become frustrating.

I've done a lot of searching and reading without any clear answers. I am using SageTV 2.1.10, the Cayars17 STV and ComSkip is not set to run automatically (though I do manually run it from time to time from within Sage). I have never had to set a show as a Favourite before, and I don't think it makes a difference now.

I have reinstalled but the problem persists.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? I made no changes to Sage before this started happening rather suddenly.

Thanks in advance!

I had something like this happening when I rebuilt my sage box. I finally found something in the log saying that the files were being deleted on purpose because the recordings were corrupt. It turns out that I used the wrong drivers for my PVR-150 MCE, which seemed to be causing the problem. I reinstalled using the correct drivers and it has been ok ever since. I really think Sage should keep a log which is viewable in sage of any files it deletes. That way their will be no question where a file went.

Or even better yet just rename the files to '.bad' so that they cannot be selected within SageTV but don't delete them. I would still like it to tell me that it renamed/deleted the files inside the UI in any case.

That would be ok in this particular instance. but if a file is being removed to make space for additional recordings I would also like to have that delete logged, If I delete a recording I would like it to be logged. that way there is no question of how the file was deleted.

What does the red box mean around my existing Recordings? It seems as though the Recordings of mine that are getting deleted right after actually recording don't have a red box around them, whereas the ones that always remain intact *do* have a red box. Any insights?

Thanks.

I believe the red box is a manual recording.

See Appendix C, starting on p. 189 in the v2.2 manual, for information on which files are automatically deleted & the order in which they are removed. Page 40, among other places, has a list of what the various outline colors mean.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction in the manual.

I think I have found the common link to why manual recordings are getting deleted right after recording, but it doesn't make a lot of sense...

If I select a show from the Guide to manually record (for example, "Biography" on A&E), and then look at Additional Airings, let's say I find a couple of other airings. If I select one of those different airings from Additional Airings (and not directly scrolling to it in the Guide itself), I am left with a recording that has no red box, and deletes itself the moment it completes.

Is there any logic to that I may be missing?

Thanks.

How are you selecting "one of those different airings from Additional Airings" to be recorded?

It all depends on how you are telling any show to record. If you are simply selecting "Watch Now", then you are watching live TV & that should be deleted shortly after the show is over. To be a Manual Recording, you have to either use the Record command or menu option. Also, the Record command is a toggle, so if you use it on an existing Manual Recording, it will clear the MR status for that show.

Also: what version of SageTV are you using? The latest version shouldn't immediately delete existing recordings when you clear their Manual Recording or Favorite status. (They can still get deleted when space is needed.)
