Switching on the PC by remote

Hi all

I recently bought a remote wonder 2 for Sagetv and i am very pleased with it. I use the plug-in from Nielm and all is working fine.

One thing that would interest me is switching on the computer from a suspended state (S3).
I have my pc set-up in such a way that it goes to standby after 15 minutes and Sagetv wakes it up to do a recording. It would be nice if i could press the power button (or any other...i don't care) and that my pc would wake from S3.
Is this possible?

Cheers,

Henk99

Not with the remote wonder. Most PC's will not power up with a usb event. You would need a serial device. I had an old IR keyboard that I use the reciver from. It connects to the ps2 port while my gyration keyboard/mouse is usb. I arbitraily taught the space button to my learning remote so that when pressed it wakes up from S3 or even power off.

Here's an option to wake with a USB connection, but it still isn't the RW2 & needs a mb that supports this feature: How to wake your PC with a remote + USB-UIRT

Henk, are you able to record using the 150 after coming out of S3? On my machine my 150s don't record... just show blank screens and no audio. I require a hard reboot (power down, not just "restart" from windows) to be able to record again.

Well this is one of the things MCE does very well . It will bring the PC out of Stanby using its usb remote. I have both MCe and SageTV installed on the same PC this this gives me the benefit of using the remote to put the PC in and oout of standby. I am not suggesting that you go out and buy a copy of MCE, but I would ask what magic does Microsoft have that SageTV does not?

By the way I prefer SagTV over MCE and use SageTV as my primary PVR Software.

Thanks Opus!
I don't feel very confident in using Girder, because i don't know it, and i'm not much of a computer wizz, but i'll surely try this.
It is good to know it IS possible in some way.

Davin, do you use 150's or 150mce's? I only have one 150mce and that works like a charm. Multiple recordings per day, and the pc goes to S3 nicely and wakes up too. All recordings are fine. The pc is kind of standalone at the moment

For a PC to support this it would have to be less then 1.5 years old. While the feature is listed in most bios, it does not work on older PC's.

Actually, I do have 150MCEs, two of them. I wonder if its an issue with multiple cards? I suppose that I could pull one of the cards and see if it works that way.

BTW, I did email Hauppauge about this and got the standard "we don't support sleep or standby, so don't use it" reply.

I've been having some shaky video problems after resume from stanbdy as well. I've even tried closing Sage completely and then reloading sage. I wonder if this is decoder related?
