USB-UIRT not communicating with Sat Box
Fellows,
I am back again. I have spent the weekend getting totally frustrated with this USB-UIRT. I am still getting one channel (the one my sat box is set on) to show up on Sage. I have a streamzap remote that I bought from Sage.tv, which is changing the channel on Sage, but the usb-uirt does not change the channel on the sat box. I see the led flashing, but the channel stays the same. My set up is a with directv sat box (D10-300). I have the usb-uirt in front of the sat box. The iinstalling of the usb-uirt went well. I followed the set up instructions on the usb-uirt web site. I did not install girder (as I thought I did not need it). I bought the usb-uirt from sage also. I follwed the sage installation manual on selecting the device on the setup wizard (I selected what was a Motorola .... device). Do I need to program the IR codes in to the usb-uirt. I thought sage would work automatically. Any suggestions would help. I have become very frustrated and about ready to sling this thing out the window... Thanks in advance. Russell |

Every set-top-box (STB) uses a different set of IR codes. It's very likely that your STB isn't compatible with the Motorola preset.
You are going to have to select 'add new device' instead of the motorola preset, and train Sage each of the number buttons. So get your old controller out, and give it a try. It would be nearly impossible for sage to include the remote codes for every possible STB with the installation. They only include the Motorola one because nearly every cable provider uses that box, or a box that uses the same codes. Post again if you have more problems after training sage. |

Crashless,
Thanks for the advice. I did train Sage to my old sat box remote. Evidently sage is not a good learner. After following the step in teh manual and testing teh channel changing ability, I have found that Sage does uses the USB-UIRT to correctly transmit the numbers 2,3,4,5,and 8. It does not enter 1, 6, 7, 9, or 0. I have gone back and had it relearn the IR codes, but no luck. I have quite a delay in entering the channel to change to. Sage recognizes it quickly, the USB-UIRT is 4-5 seconds behind on transmitting the IR to the sat box. Any thoughts? Thanks again for you help. Russell |

This sounds like it could be a polarity issue.
Some remotes send different codes when you press the same button more than once. I have a furguson freeview box that I had problems (not quite the same as yours) with. I found that Jon over on the USB-UIRT forum was incredibly helpful and managed to sort me out. |

It might also be a simple line-of-sight issue. The USBUIRT is a strong blaster, but sometimes it just doesn't bounce back to the recieving device.
Try changing channels with the USBUIRT pointed at the sat box. If it works, you might need to get a remote emitter to extend the transmission directly to the STB. |

Crashless,
I have the usb-uirt pointed about 5 inches from the sat box. I am going to reprogram the IR's again and see what happens. Thansk Russell |

Crashless,
Had sage relearn the codes. I read on another post that you should not have the sat box in line of sight of the usb-uirt when it is learning the codes. Did that and it worked. Now I would like to know if there is a way to try speeding up the transmitting time between the usb-uirt and sat box. THanks agian for all your help. Greatly appreciated. Life is good again. I'm glad to hear things are working!
If you open the .ir file you created, the first line has a bunch of numbers. The last two numbers are the number of milliseconds between channel sends, and changes. Try reducing those numbers and see if you can get it how you want. Be carefull not to reduce them too far because you'll reach a point at which your STB won't recognize the changes anymore, and will reduce it's accuracy. You can also reduce the repeatcount number on the 3rd line (i think) and get faster response. |
