Guide without network connection?
Is there anyway to get my directv guide info from the receiver? I want to setup Sage without a network connection so every 14 days when it goes out to grab the guide info it won't be able to. So what I want to know, is if it some how possible to grab the guide info off of the satellite receiver itself? If not is this a thought for future releases?
Thanks |

Any reason you can't use dialup from the same telephone jack that your directv receiver uses?

Sorry, there is no way to grab the EPG data from the Satellite receiver. To use the SageTV Service, you need an internet connection.

What ISP are you currently using? Around here, the major broadband ISP's are Time Warner and Southwest Bell. Both offer dialup as a standard part of their broadband package. Or are you completely disconnected at the house?

dkardatzke: Thanks for the post. Is this is a thought for future releases? The ability to grab EPG data from the Satellite receiver?
Thanks |

I don't believe there is any way to grab it legally. Let alone if it's even possible.

Where is the EPG data stored and in what format? Is it possible that I go out on the net manually on another machine and grab the EPG data then "import" it into Sage?

Hi Kevthor,
You may want to consider the XMLTV plugin for Sage. The plugin itself makes no connection to the internet. Instead, it uses the XML file generated by XMLTV to populate your EPG data. Using this method, you could configure and run XMLTV from a system that is connected to the internet, then copy the generated XML file to your computer at home. Every 8-10 days or so (depending on how many days of data you grab) you just update the XML file and copy it over the existing one on your home system. Look here for the plugins. Basically, there are two different versions of the SageTV-XMLTV plugin right now (I think). 1) The plugin from Lester Jacobs which is here and works with XMLTV version 0.5.14 (which can be downloaded from here.) 2) The same plugin patched by Corykim to work with the XMLTV version 0.5.15 (which is here.) Hope this helps, pb
