Surge protection for coax cable
Anyone make a recommendation for a good way to protect the coax cable going into my capture card?
I purchased a $20 surge protector, and it has a coax in/out, but the quality degredation was horrible. Also, seems like coax surge protection should be a separate passive device, with no need for any power.

The main thing is to make sure the shield is grounded at the main entrance to your house. The cable company usually has a junction box with a "ground block" in it (it also provides center conductor surge supression). If that's in good shape and properly grounded, then you really don't need more protection -- and like you have noticed, some devices will impact signal esp the higher frequency digital content, internet download etc.
