So how do i get this to work with a client server setup.

i have my server in a remote location (away from tv) and my client next to my tv. Do i install this to both machines, or just the server.

i want the server to do the comskip processing.

Ive never tried to use the comskip because i didnt like loading other STV's.

I don't get the autoskip functionality to work either. I can skip over commercials using keys mapped to Custom4 and Custom5 but while watching a show Sage does not automatically skip highlighted commercial areas (as seen by the purple segments on the time bar).

Cheers

It should be working. Please make sure you have it enabled in the Detailed Setup - Comskip section.

I've experienced this as well. I can use Custom4/Custom5 buttons to skip around the commercials, but the auto skip does not work. I have OSD Autoskip set to Enabled in the Detailed Setup.

I am running version 2.2.8 of Sage and use DirMon to do the Commercial Processing (so I have background processing disabled in the STV).

Double check in your Sage properties file and make sure you have this line:

commercial_auto_skip=true

If not, add it.

commerical_auto_skip is set to true in Sage.properties. I do not run Sage as a service, so there are no other property files to check, correct?

Mine is not skipping either, but I have to say for my first STV "extension" I am very impressed. I think it is great just showing you how much time you are going to save (all the purple) when you skip all the commericials!

As soon as I can "boot" the family off the TV I am going to try cycling Sage to see if it will use the new properties and start skipping commericials!

I agree 100% I haven't wanted to venture into upgrading to one of the more complex STVs (for fear of lowering the WAF) - so this STV is perfect. Thanks much for developing this. Even without the autoskipping, it is an incredible blessing to be able to jump past commercials with a single command on the remote.

I could have sworn I tested the autoskip before I released this. I just loaded up the STV to test it and low and behold it doesn't work. I apologize. I'll try and figure it out this weekend.

Just updated the first post in this thread with a patch release fixing the autoskip and also adding the setting to the options popup in the OSD. Hopefully I got it right this time.

Went home at lunch and installed the update.... works like a charm! Thanks!

One hassle I have now with this new option is trying to tell which programs have been post-processed by the ComSkip utility. Sure would be great to be able to tell which shows have and which haven't been ComSkipped. I don't plan on watching another show unless it's been processed.

Thanks for enabling me to skip commercials!

I'll come up with something soon so you can see if a show has a comskip file.

Has anyone tweaked their ComSkip ini file? I haven't yet, but I have found that on about 80% of the shows that have been processed by ComSkip it didn't find the commercials. I have been reading the forumns, but nothing really concrete has come up that I thought would help out.
It is really weired, because it was marking the commericials better at the beginning and seems to have gotten worse, are there dynamic variables that it uses?

EDIT: Along those same lines, where does one go to get the latest Comskip.exe? I am using version .41 and I am seeing mention of newer versions.

ToxMox:

Great and kudos!

My wife was slow to take to Sage back in the 1.4 days but is now very engaged in its use. For this reason, I now am very careful about dragging her through debugging phases and have quit experimenting with STV's otherwise I am quite likely to find my ass relocated somewhere between my shoulder blades (uplifted-ass syndrome is probably a common problem among many forum members here).

The standerd STV with only comskip added is just right. Thanks!

I've now been running "OriginalV2Comskip.stv" for almost a week and am quite impressed. The WAF is also very high. However, I have had some issues:

1) Was this functionality added to the absolute newest version of the Original STV? I've always used a "Windows Scheduled Task" to automatically reboot my machine once a day and have never had any adverse side affects from this. However, the OriginalV2Comskip.stv has introduced a very consistent bug such that after a reboot my sage.properties and my wiz.bin files both get reset to their "out-of-box" state. (I have to restore them from backup after any reboot). This kinda sucks. Any ideas why this is happening with this STV?

2) The commercial marking is accurate to about 70%. Some commercial blocks are missed completely, some program blocks are incorrectly marked as commercial. (I'm using comskip with dirMon). How does one go about "tweaking" the detection settings? Any techniques anyone has to assertain *the reason* behind each mistake made by comskip?

3) And one more question... Uh, what buttons on your remote did you guys use for "custum4" and "custom5"? (I have the *new* remote that comes with the Hauppauge PVR-350). I don't seem to have any spare buttons that I can give up for this.

Cheers,
Julian
