No video or sound - please help!!!
Some background info first... (using the latest trial version of SageTV: v2.2.8) When I go to the channel setup area where you can enable or disable channels whenever I click on View (on any channel) the preview in the upper-right displays a-ok with crystal-clear audio.
My problem occures whenever I go through the LiveTV Guide area and pick a show to watch then click on Watch Now. The screen will change views and will display all the normal stuff like the description at the top, channel #, volume, and timeline at the bottom. Then all that dissappears with nothing but a black screen and SageTV freezes. It won't respond to keyboard commands or mouse clicks. I have to use End Task in Task Manager in order to close SageTV. What really bugs me about all of this is that the preview in the channel area works just fine but the place that matters the most and it doesn't work. I really like the interface and ease of use but I don't want to pay for something that won't work for me. Also, I know that it isn't my capture card because it works fine with MediaPortal and the software that comes with it from Hauppauge. I am using the latest drivers for my capture card from hauppauge.com and I am using the latest version of Java (with no other versions of Java installed). Now for the technical stuff... Motherboard: Via EPIA-M CPU: Via C3 1Ghz RAM: 512MB DDR Capture Card: Hauppauge WinTV USB2 (using the latest drivers from Hauppauge) Decoders installed: All decoders installed from SageTV install |

DOH! I bought the wrong damn card. I thought I had bought the right one but evidentally I didn't. Thanks for the quick response. I'll see if I can return it and get the HardPVR version. Thanks again!

Ok,
So If I am experiencing the same problem as the above poster, and I don't have a "supported" tv tuner card, NOONE CAN ANSWER HIS QUESTIONS? If when in the channel setup, we get picture and sound, then why not when trying to view tv? I have the same exact problem as above with a Raedon AIW, Am I out of luck too? robbieD |

So called "software encoder" cards (like your AIW and his USB) are not officially supported by Sage. Some have reported them working for Live TV, but they definitely will not work for recording. Not to be curt, but if you get a "software encoder" card working at all you're lucky.
FWIW, I believe the channel preview (and capture calibration) modes use the card in a different way than Sage normally does, that's probably why it works in the setup but not elsewhere. |

Thanks for the info,
I now understand why it doesn't work. My AIW being a software encoder is the problem because Sage is always recording. When you preview in the channel setup screen, it is not recording. When You go to live TV, It is always recording like a Tivo, and Sage not cooperating with my software tuner locks it up tighter than a frog's arse. I came here because I am looking for an alternative to Beyond TV's buggy [and getting buggier] software. BTV has the option to turn off "always recording" which allows for greater configurability, but as I said, Snapstream's software keeps getting buggier and buggier. Back to the drawing board. robbieD |
