wireless client
If I were to make my network wireless can I still play shows through my main system which holds the movies to the client in the other room downstairs. If so which card should I look at getting. G is nice but still a little expensive. A is hard to find. B is the right price but not sure if fast enough.

That's what I do. I've only tried G. It works fine for SVCD-level recordings. I get some stuttering of the picture every now and then, but I doubt that it is because of wireless LAN saturation. Problem with B and G is since they are 2.4 GHz-based, they conflict with some wireless phones and make a wireless television transmission impossible (if you use wireless senders/receivers to send a cable channe to a TV in an uncabled room, for instance. Not sure if A avoids that problem. Another disadvange of A besides price is that its range is less.

The B wireless will not handle the high data rates of anything above VCD quality. I have a wireless lan setup and I can play VCD/Divix size videos but it chokes on anything bigger.

Right, I've done both.
During the SageTV Client beta I was using 802.11b, and could only stream the low bitrate recordings. And honestly, I thought they looked like crap, so gave up quick. Soon after that I sold all of my 802.11b stuff on ebay and bought all 802.11G stuff... Now I can easily stream 8Mbit video and it looks GREAT. Really slick setup. I got a lot more than the faceplate 802.11b -> 802.11G speed increase. The reason for this is that my G setup had a MUCH lower perfromance hit with WEP enabled than my B setup did.. So instead of getting like 4.5x increase, I got close to 10x increase. Go 'G'. Jason Quote:
